STILLWATER, Okla. - Eighth-ranked Derek Moore picked up a 5-2 upset over fourth-ranked Nathan Morgan in the 141-pound bout to earn one of three UC Davis wins in a 22-9 loss to No. 2 Oklahoma State in collegiate wrestling dual action at historic Gallagher-Iba Arena in front of 2,875 Sunday. No. 15 Tyler Bernacchi and Eliot Kelly also won their bouts at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively.

The Aggies open the 2006-07 season at 0-1. The Cowboys, four-time defending NCAA champions, open at 1-0. At No. 2 in the USA Today/Intermat/NWCA preseason poll, OSU is the highest-ranked opponent UC Davis has faced in program history.

Bernacchi beat Jack Jensen, 7-1, in the 184-pound weight class, then the 197-pound Kelly edged Jared Shelton, 4-3, in what was regarded as the match's most exciting bout. Trailing by a 1-0 deficit, Kelly chose the down position to start the third period. With 1:16 remaining in the match, he scored a two-point reversal to take a 2-1 lead. Shelton answered with a reversal of his own to retake a one-point lead, then Kelly scored yet another reversal to end the match and claim a 4-3 victory.

The Cowboys won the first four bouts of the dual as B.J. Jackson took a 10-4 decision against Shawn Haratani at 149 pounds, then Newly McSpadden won a 15-5 major over Jon Clark at 157s. Sophomore Dustin Noack, who appeared in just 11 bouts as a redshirt freshman in 2005-06, battled two-time national champion Johnny Hendricks to a 1-1 tie through three rounds at the 165-pound class. Hendricks won the bout, 2-1, picking up one point for 1:06 of riding time.

The 174-pound bout featured two wrestlers ranked among the preseason top 10, as sixth-ranked Brandon Mason of OSU edged fourth-ranked Aggie senior Ken Cook. Mason scored on a stall point and an escape, then grabbed an additional point of riding time to post a 3-0 win and give OSU a 13-0 match score.

UC Davis broke the scoreless tie on Bernacchi's win at 184s, then cut the lead to 13-6 after Maffia's heroics at the 197-pound class. But Oklahoma State scored three straight wins, including No. 3 Coleman Scott's 8-2 win over UC Davis' 19th-ranked Omar Gaitan at 133 pounds. Moore then finished the dual with his win against Morgan, a 2006 All-American.

The Aggies return to action at the California Open in Fullerton on November 18.
