FULLERTON, Calif. - Seventh-ranked Derek Moore posted a 1-0 decision against No. 15 Mitch Mueller of Iowa State on Saturday night as the UC Davis senior claimed the 141-pound championship at the Fullerton Open, leading six Aggie placewinners at the all-day tournament.

Marcos Orozco won his first three matches before dropping a close 5-2 decision to Richard Byrd of Embry-Riddle and finished second at 125 pounds while Omar Gaitan won four straight at 133 before losing in the title bout to unattached competitor Darrell Vasquez and also taking second. Moore and Gaitan earned spots in the championship matches last year as well.

Eliot Kelly earned a third-place finish for the Aggies at 197 on Saturday while Jeff Prentice and Broc Maffia took fourth-places at 174 and 285, respectively, helping the Aggies to a half-dozen placewinners.

Moore rolled through his first three wins on Saturday, posting a fall, a technical fall and a major decision before edging Pat Payne of Arizona State in the semifinals, 4-2. Moore then captured the title over the nationally ranked Mueller with a tight 1-0 win.

Orozco highlighted his three wins on the way to the final with a fall at 1:49 over Rick Bernal of Rio Hondo College while Gaitan also had a fall among his four wins when he pinned Frankie Villaescusa in 3:47.

Kelly went 1-1 in the championship side of the bracket at 197 before winning four bouts in the consolation bracket, clinching third with a default win over unattached Brandon Halsey who he beat in the first round as well, 7-4.

Prentice went 6-2 to earn a hard-fought fourth place at 174, while Maffia had a pair of pins to start his day and later won three straight in the consolation side of the draw before losing to David Zabriski 4-2 for third, Zabriski's second win over Maffia on Saturday.

UC Davis had 17 competitors in the tournament which featured several teams including No. 4 Iowa State and No. 17 Cal Poly.

The Aggies return to action at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 1-2.
