FULLERTON, Calif. --- Derek Moore and Mike Font scored wins by fall at 133 and 165 pounds, respectively, to lead UC Davis to a 33-9 win over Cal St. Fullerton in a Pacific-10 Conference dual wrestling match at Titan Gym in front of 1,421 fans Friday.

The Aggies even their season record at 1-1, and open conference dual action at 1-0. The Titans open their year at 0-1.

Moore pinned Robert Valenzuela at the four-minute, 44-second mark of the dual, while Font took just four seconds longer to finish Fullerton's Matt Lambert. The pins were two of eight Aggie wins. Tommy Schurkamp scored five team points with his 22-5 technical fall win against Nick Hein in 125-pound action. Brandon Bear added four points to the UC Davis tally with a 12-2 major decision against Daniel Contreras at 184 pounds.

The Titans took an early 3-0 lead when Landon Seefeldt beat Dan Schön, 11-4, in the match opener at 197 pounds. But Aggie heavyweight Flynn Ficker defeated Tyson Blair in a 10-8 overtime decision to even the dual score at 3-3.

Schurkamp's technical fall gave UC Davis the lead for good, and Moore's pin stretched out the margin to 14-3. Jeff Bristol and Kevin Jones scored respective one-point victories for UC Davis at 141 and 149 pounds, then senior Jeremiah Jarvis posted a 5-3 win against Dustin Vance in the 157-pound bout to clinch the match.



Fullerton's Leonel Sanchez highlighted his team's action with a 5:14 pin over Daniel Price at 174 pounds.

The match was designated as High School Wrestling Day, resulting in a crowd of 1,421. The event also featured exhibition matches with Embry-Riddle and two local community colleges.

The Aggies will compete in the Fullerton Open Saturday.
