UC Davis Beats Oregon 26-22 For Second Pac-10 Wrestling Win In Two Days

EUGENE, Ore. - UC Davis picked up wins by Brandon Bear at 185 pounds and Daniel Murphree at 149 on Wednesday at Oregon, combining those with two forfeits and an injury default for a 26-22 win over the Ducks in a Pac-10 Conference wrestling match.

The Aggies, who rolled to a 44-3 win at Portland State on Tuesday, improved to 2-0 both overall and in conference action. The Ducks, who have received votes in the NWCA/Intermat Top 25 poll, are 0-2 overall and 0-1 in league.

UC Davis trailed on Tuesday after Pancho Manriquez lost a 10-5 decision to Joey Lucas at 125 in the opening match, but picked up forfeit wins by Derek Moore (133) and Omar Gaitan (141) for a 12-3 lead. The Aggies extended their lead to 17-3 after Murphree beat Stewart Bogart with a 17-2 technical fall win at 149.

Frank Richmond won by injury default over Joey Bracamonte at 165 after Bracamonte was forced to retire from the bout in the first period. Leading, 23-11, UC Davis got its final points when Brandon Bear posted an 8-2 decision against Chet McBee at 184. The Ducks won by technical fall at 197 and 285 to bring the final score to 26-22.

Both Murphree and Bear posted wins on the mat in both their matches over the past two days while Moore received two forfeits.

UC Davis returns to action on Dec. 3-4 at the Las Vegas Invitational.
