LAS VEGAS, Nev. - No. 4 seed Derek Moore defeated No. 5 tournament seed Ron Tarquinio in a 6-2 decision to advance to Saturday's semifinals highlighting UC Davis action at the 24th-annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational at the Cashman Center Friday.

Moore (141) won his first two matches of the day by fall. He pinned Eastern Michigan's Nick Conklin 5:57 into his first match of the day and then went on to pin San Francisco State's Eric Fitzpatrick 4:26 into his second match. Moore then went on to defeat Hofstra's John Menarte via a 16-0 technical fall before finishing the day with the win over Tarquino in the quarter final.

No. 10 seed Ken Cook (174) upset No. 7 seed Luke Hogle of Cornell in a 12-4 major decision in his second match of the day before falling in the quarter finals to No. 2 seed Mike Patrovich of Hofstra in 10-7 decision. Cook will compete for third place in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

UC Davis is in 18th place out of a field of 52 teams after the first day of competition with 33.5 points. Michigan currently leads the pack with 86 points. Action at the Las Vegas Invitational will continue on Saturday.
