DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis wrestling team used three wins by major decision to defeat the San Francisco Gators 24-12 in a non-conference home dual in front of a crowd of 225 at UC Davis' Hickey Gym Friday evening.

Marcos Orozco (125), Omar Gaitan (133) and Frank Richmond (165) each won by major decision to help the Ags past the Gators and lift the overall UC Davis season record to 2-1.

In the first match of the evening S.F. State's Richard Escobar used three takedowns and 1 minute and 14 seconds of riding time to defeat Tyler Bernacchi, 8-3 in the 184-pound weight class. Escobar's win was followed by a win by forfeit for Aggie Eliot Kelly (197) to give UC Davis a 6-3 lead.

In the heavyweight match-up, Sandeep Singh of SF State had a two-point takedown with 9 seconds left in the match earning him the 5-3 decision over UC Davis' Broc Maffia which tied the dual up at 6-6.

Marcos Orozco was able to tally three two-point near-falls against S.F. State's Jamil Smart to capture a 12-1 major decision in the 125-pound match. Omar Gaitan followed suit in the 133- pound match using a three-point near-fall and four takedowns to defeat Virgill Lockett in a 15-5 major decision.

In the 141-pound match, Alek Buttler was able to get the best of UC Davis' David Espinosa with two back-to-back, two-point, near-falls in the second period that helped Buttler to the 9-3 win. After the 141-pound match, UC Davis held a 14-9 lead.

The Aggies and Gators traded a pair of wins as Jesse Padilla tallied another win for the Aggies with a 9-2 decision over Jeff Johnson in the 149-pound match-up only to be followed by a win by Kirk Fitzpatrick in a 9-4 decision over Shawn Haratani in the 157-pound match-up.

Frank Richmond was able to use two takedowns and two near-falls along with 4 minutes and 37 seconds of riding time to defeat Will Simmons in a 13-2 major decision. In the final match-up of the day, UC Davis' Ken Cook captured a 2-0 decision over Danny Dahl in the 174-pound match to give the Aggies the 24-12 win.

"We wrestled kind of flat at some weights and we did well at some weights. I think Omar Gaitan, Jesse Padilla and Frank Richmond each did a nice job during their matches. It was down for us, but I think in part it has to do with us transitioning some things," said head coach Lennie Zalesky.

The Aggies will be in action next at the Reno Tournament of Champions which will be held on Dec. 18.
