Bristol's Pin Highlights Aggies' Win Over Air Force

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Jeff Bristol pinned Matthew Benza at 141 pounds while teammates Flynn Ficker, Derek Moore and Michael Font each posted major decisions as UC Davis defeated Air Force 27-9 in a non-conference wrestling match Thursday in Las Vegas.

With the win the Aggies improve to 2-1 on the season.

Ficker began the night by posting a 14-6 major decision over Air Force's Kurt Skarstedt in the heavyweight division. Tommy Shurkamp added to the Aggie lead with a 5-4 decision over Heath McKim in the 125-pound class. Moore gave the Aggies an 11-0 lead with a 13-2 major decision over the Falcons' Brandon Strong at 133 pounds.

Bristol then pinned Benza at the two minute, 53-second mark of the 141-pound match, the only pin of the night. Air Force earned its first win of the night when Chris Nissen posted an 8-3 decision over Kevin Jones at 149 pounds. Jeremiah Jarvis pushed the Aggie lead to 20-3 with a 5-3 decision over Justin Gabbard.

At 165 pounds, font recorded a major decision over Blaine Brown, 12-2, before Air Force earned back-to-back wins as Jacob Lillich decisioned Frank Richmond, 9-5, at 174 pounds and Luke Lefever recorded a 5-3 decision over Brandon Bear at 184 pounds. Dan Schon closed out the match for UC Davis with an 8-5 decision over Brenden McLean at 197 pounds.
