SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - UC Davis will send a quartet of wrestlers into third-place matches on Monday afternoon at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships as the Aggies each look to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships in March.

Derek Moore (133), Jeff Bristol (141), Ronnie Silva (174) and Brandon Bear (184) each won their consolation semifinal matches on Monday morning and will wrestle in the afternoon for third place.

The third-seeded Moore posted an 11-1 major decision against John Espinoza of Arizona State and will face unseeded Chad Mendes of Cal Poly. Bristol upset fourth-seeded Roberto Vargas of Cal State Bakersfild in overtime, 3-1, and will battle third-seeded Tim Norman of Oregon State.

Silva, the top-seeded wrestler in his class, also won by major decision, beating Arizona State's Rick Renzi, 11-1. Silva will wrestle third-seeded Imad Kharbush of Stanford for third. The fourth-seeded Bear upset third-seeded Ryan Halsey of Cal Poly, 3-2, avenging two earlier defeats to Halsey this season.

Three other Aggies lost in the consolation semifinals and will wrestle for fifth-place this afternoon. Daniel Murphree (149) lost 7-3 to Jeff Owens of Cal Poly, Frank Richmond (165) was downed by Pat Pitsch of Arizona State, 7-2, and Reed Shelger (197) was defeated by fourh-seeded Landon Seefeldt of Cal State Fullerton, 12-7.

The top three finishers in each weight class plus 10 wildcards will earn spots at the national championship meet in St. Louis, Mo., in March. Both Moore and Bear are looking for their second straight trip to the NCAA Championships.
