DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis head wrestling coach Lennie Zalesky announced Tuesday that Poway High School's Conrad Snell has signed a National Letter of Intent during the spring signing period and is expected to enroll at UC Davis in the fall of 2009.

"(Conrad) spent two years on an extremely competitive varsity wrestling team at Poway and showed tremendous improvement over the last year," said Zalesky. "He started as a soccer player who wrestled but has taken this huge step over the past year into a true wrestler. His continued improvement in the sport will be to the benefit of our program. I can see him helping out as soon as next year at 141 or 149 (pounds)."

Despite only competing on Poway's varsity wrestling team for two years, Snell excelled his senior year at 135 pounds and finished 46-6 overall while racking up first-team All-Palomar League and CIF San Diego Section accolades. Snell won the league, section and master's titles to earn the acclaim. He also advanced to the finals of the state championships in his only trip. Snell's efforts helped PHS earn back-to-back league and section titles and the state championship in 2009. In addition, Snell also spent his senior year as a member of the soccer team, which he helped lead to the quarterfinals at sections.

Snell also excels academically and was honored as a scholar-athlete by the San Diego Union-Tribune during all three seasons in which he participated in a varsity sport. He has also declared that mathematics will be his intended major at UC Davis along with pursuing his minor in education.

UC Davis has signed Snell and Kyle West to NLI's this season, making a total of eight state place winners signed over the last two years.
