LA JOLLA, Calif. - Colleen Turnbull recorded her sixth double-double of the season and the Aggies broke open a close game in the second half with a 22-4 run as UC Davis cruised to the 80-60 victory over UC San Diego in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's game in front of 414 Saturday evening at the RIMAC Center.

With the win the Aggies improve to 10-5 on the season, 6-4 in CCAA play after starting the conference season 0-3. The Tritons fall to 4-10 on the year, 4-6 in conference action.

With the Tritons holding a three-point lead five minutes into the second half, the Aggies made their charge. Turnbull's jumper at the 15:28 mark started the rally and Jennifer Decuir would cap the run by scoring seven of the last nine points, giving UC Davis a 64-49 lead with under 10 minutes remaining. The Aggie defense came alive in that time, holding the Tritons to just two field goals while forcing five turnovers.

UC San Diego would never recover as the closest they would come would be 15 points the rest of the way.

For the second half the Aggies shot 61 percent from the field, many of those coming in the paint where then Aggies held a 20-4 edge in the second period. UC Davis also capitalized on 13 second-half Triton turnovers which they converted into 20 points. Conversely, the Aggies committed 10 turnovers which UC San Diego could only turn into four points.

"This was a big win for us," said Aggie Head Coach Sandy Simpson. "I thought we did a great job in the second half on the defensive boards. We limited their second-chance opportunities and converted our chances at the other end of the floor.

"Kate Rosenberg really did a nice job tonight, doing all the little things," Simpson continued. "She held their top scorer to just five points in the second half. Colleen also had a great night, seemingly grabbing every defensive rebound."

UC Dais looked good early, jumping out to a 16-11 lead in the opening seven minutes. Turnbull was dialed in early as she scored nine of the first 16 UC Davis points. UC Davis would continue to lead until late in the half when the Tritons went on a 12-3 run to take a 30-26 lead with just over five minutes remaining. Katie McGann led the charge as she score all eight of her first-half points in the run.

The Aggies would tie the game at 30-30 following baskets from Sarah Allen and Decuir, but the Triton would outscore UC Davis 8-5 over the final four minutes to take a three-point lead into halftime at 38-35.

For the game the Aggies shot 54 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range. For the first time in their last six games UC Davis did not shoot over 80 percent from the free throw line, but they would not need it as they rolled to the 20-point win.

Turnbull led the way with 20 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Allen finished with a game-high 21 points. Decuir scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half as the only other Aggie in double figures. Rosenberg filled out the stat line with eight points, four rebounds, a game-high six assists and three steals.

San Diego was paced by Ali Ginn's 17 points and six boards while McGann was the only other Triton in double figures with 12 points.

The Aggies return to Rec Hall next Friday when they host Cal State L.A. Gametime is set for 6pm.
