LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Monica Tokoro came off the bench to score 24 points and the Golden Eagles led wire-to-wire as Cal State Los Angeles defeated UC Davis 81-72 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's game Saturday evening at the Eagles Nest.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 11-7 on the season, 6-6 in CCAA play. CSLA improves to 4-13 overall, 3-9 in conference action.

The Golden Eagles scored the first basket of the game and never trailed the rest of the game. Forward Charmaine Utz account for 10 first-half points as the Aggies had not answer for her on the low block. The Golden Eagles held their biggest lead of the half at 34-26 following a Patricia Nunez short jumper, but it was the last Eagles basket of the half.

UC Davis, which struggled to find its shooting touch most of the half, came alive late. Back-to-back jumpers from Jennifer Decuir, the last a three-pointer, cut the lead to three and with time running down, Ellen Porshneva hit a baseline jumper to close out the first-half scoring with CSLA leading 34-33.

In the second half the Golden Eagles extended the lead to 10 midway through the period and the Aggies never mounted a serious threat. The game seesawed back and forth between seven and 10 points as the Aggies couldn't string consecutive baskets together.

Ellen Porshneva did her best in the half, scoring 16 points. She had five straight points to cut the CSLA lead to 70-63 with just over three minutes remaining, but the Aggies got no closer. The Eagles scored the next five points with a Tokoro three-point play capping the run to push the lead back to 12 and ending the Aggie chances.

Porshneva finished the night with a team-high 23 points while Decuir ended with 21 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Jessica Campbell was the only other Aggie in double figures with 10.

Tokoro scored her 24 points on 9 of 13 shooting while Shanna Demus finished with 17 points and Jaemy Oda added 16. The Golden Eagles shot 55 percent on the game and after making their first 16 free throws, finished at 78 percent from the charity stripe.

These same two teams will meet next Friday night at Recreation Hall. Gametime is set for 6 p.m.
