DAVIS, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara got off to a hot start, opening an 11-point lead in the opening minutes, but UC Davis rebounded to take a halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 82-70 Big West Conference women's basketball win at The Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Alyson Doherty, who scored 20 points in Thursday's loss to Cal Poly, was the Aggies' leading scorer once again, finishing with 23 points on 7-of-11 from the field and adding eight rebounds and four assists in the win. Junior Sydnee Fipps added 21 points for her ninth, 20-point game of the season while becoming the 16th UC Davis player to top the 1,000-point barrier for her career on a three-pointer with 10:53 to play in the first half.

Junior Kelsey Harris finished with 14 points and sophomore Celia Marfone had a solid line of 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, for UC Davis which snapped a two-game skid overall, and a three-game losing streak to UC Santa Barbara, to improve to 8-11 overall and 4-3 in the Big West.

Nicole Nesbit led UCSB with 17 points while Melissa Zornig tallied 12 for the Gauchos, who fell to 6-14 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Santa Barbara jumped out quickly, using a 14-5 over a five-minute stretch to take an 18-7 lead just seven minutes into the game. It led by double-digits, 20-10, before the Aggies turned the tables by scoring 17 of the next 24 points to tie the game 27-27 with 4:57 left in the half.

A pair of free throws by freshman Brianne Yasukochi gave UC Davis a 31-29 lead and the Aggies never trailed again. UC Davis led by as many as five in the first half before carrying a 35-34 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Harris hit a three-pointer at the start of the second half to start a 7-0 surge that pushed the lead to 42-34.The Gauchos got to within five points four different times but could not get any closer.

UC Davis hit its final nine free throws in the last two minutes to help keep the Gauchos away. The Aggies went a season-best 31-for-36 (86.1 percent) from the line for the game. They also had just 10 turnovers -- including only two in the second half -- and shot 45.8 percent from the field for the game.

Doherty and Fipps gave the Aggies a pair of 20-point scorers in the same game since Fipps (22) teamed with Courtney French (20) to do it against USC on Dec. 21 of last season. Doherty, who was just one off her career-high scoring total set at Hofstra on Dec. 7 earlier this year, went past 20 points in a game for the third time in her career, all of them coming this season.

UC Davis returns to the hardcourt on Thursday when it travels to face Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m.

NOTES: The Aggies improved to 6-0 this season when four players finish in double figures… With her 21 points, Fipps now has 1,018 for her career, just nine points back of Kendall Greene (1992-96) for 15th place on the school's all-time list… Fipps became the first Aggie to reach 1,000 career points since Kasey Riecks finished her career with 1,071 points during the 2011-12 season… the 31 makes from the line were the most since UC Davis finished with the same number of makes against San Jose State on Nov. 16, 2011 -- a total that stands just six shy of the single-game mark (37) set at Cal State Los Angeles on Dec. 11, 1998.
