DAVIS, Calif. - Cortney French led all scorers with 20 points, tying a career-high with six three pointers, while Molly Greubel added 12 points, but the UC Davis women's basketball team fell to UC Irvine 70-57 on Saturday at The Pavilion in Davis.

UC Davis drops to 9-11 overall and 4-5 in the Big West and sees its three-game winning streak fall at the hands of UC Irvine which picked up its first Big West victory of the season. The Anteaters are now 5-16 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

French's six treys matched her career-high mark set on Jan. 10 at Cal Poly.

Greubel's 12 points came largely from the free throw line where she went 6-of-7 and had hit 22 consecutive free throws until a miss with 3:26 to go. She also added five rebounds and four assists.

Blair Shinoda dished out a team-high five assists to go with three steals while Alyson Doherty added five boards and two blocks.

Camille Buckley led UC Irvine with 15 points and 22 rebounds while Jennifer Tsurumoto finished with 19 points, hitting 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

UC Irvine built up an 11-0 lead to start the game and held UC Davis scoreless for nearly six minutes until French drained a left side three at the 14:08 mark to put the Aggies on the scoreboard. The Anteaters held on to a double-digit lead until Molly Greubel stepped up to drain a three of her own and bring UC Davis to within seven at 17-10.

UC Irvine briefly took back a 10-point lead after Anete Klintsone hit a three, but Greubel and Marfone combined to score seven unanswered points for UC Davis to put the Aggies just three points back. Marfone got the scoring started with a jumper at the 6:42 mark, then Greubel followed with her second trey of the half and two free throws.

The Anteaters pulled away again to take a 25-17 lead with 3:40 to go, but French swished through a long trey to keep UC Davis within five points. French closed the half with her third trey and UC Davis went into the locker room trailing 30-25.

The second half began much like the first with UC Irvine using a 10-0 run in the first three minutes to go up 40-25. It was French who, again, provided the first basket of the half, sinking a trey at the 16:20 mark.

The Anteaters stayed on top by double digits until Emily Vann cut UC Irvine's lead to eight with a trey from the right side and the Aggies would hover within a single-digit deficit for the next few minutes.

French pulled the Aggies to within five after yet another three-point shot, followed by a pair of free throws at the 9:50 mark. UC Irvine pulled away again until French and Shinoda hit back-to-back threes late in the half to cut the UC Irvine lead to 60-57.

Shinoda's three at the 4:49 mark, however, was the last Aggie field goal of the half as UC Irvine closed the game on a 10-0 run, hitting 8-of-8 from the free throw line for the 70-57 win.

UC Davis continues its four-game homestand as the second half of Big West play opens on Thursday. The Aggies will host UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. at The Pavilion.
