DAVIS, Calif. - Jennifer Decuir scored a game-high 20 points and the Aggies withstood a late second-half push as UC Davis defeated UC San Diego 72-66 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's game in front of 1,125 Saturday night at Recreation Hall.

With the win the Aggies improve to 15-9 on the season, 10-8 in CCAA play. They also increase their home record to 10-2 this season, including the last six. The Tritons fall to 12-11 overall, 8-10 in conference action.

The teams exchanged baskets early on as there were five ties and three lead changes in the opening five minutes. With the Tritons holding a 13-11 advantage, the Aggies went on a 12-0 run over a seven-minute stretch to take a 23-13 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. The Tritons went cold, missing six straight shots and committing four turnovers on their nine possession during the drought while Decuir had six of the Aggies 12 points.

UC Davis took a four-point lead into halftime thanks to 12 offensive rebounds that resulted in 12 Aggie points.

In the second half UC Davis maintained control of the game, stretching its lead to 11 midway through the period. The Tritons chipped away at the lead and had it to one at 61-60 with 5:16 left after a Robyn Phillips layup. Aggie freshman Lindsey Jones countered on the next possession with a three of her own to push the lead back to four and give UC Davis some breathing room.

Another Phillips jumper cut it back to a two-point deficit but that was as close as the Tritons came. Two Jessica Campbell free throws and an Ellen Porshneva jumper quickly made it a six-point lead with under two minutes to play. When the Tritons were forced to foul late, senior Kim Omer made all four of her free throws in the final minute to preserve the win.

"This might have been our best back-to-back defensive efforts of the season," said Aggie head coach Sandy Simpson. "In the first half we held them scoreless almost seven minutes as we built our lead. In the second half we were more efficient at the offensive end. We had better scoring opportunities and made some big baskets, including Lindsay Jones' three that gave us a little cushion.

"We have played well at home all season and we have to be able to take that same mentality on the road," Simpson continued."

Decuir led all scorers with 20 points while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Campbell finished with 14 points, seven boards and three assists while Porshneva was the other Aggie in double figures with 12.

San Diego was led by Hillary Hansen's double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Leora Juster added 12 points and a game-high six assists while Ali Ginn finished with 10 points.

UC Davis continues its four-game homestand next Friday when it hosts Cal Poly Pomona at Recreation Hall. Gametime is set for 6 p.m.
