Three-Point Shooting Cools As Fullerton Claims Comeback Win

FULLERTON, Calif. - Despite a career-high 24 points off the bench by sophomore wing Haylee Donaghe, UC Davis was unable to protect a narrow halftime lead, falling 62-53 to Cal State Fullerton in non-conference women's basketball action at Titan Gym Thursday.

The Aggies move to 13-15 overall. The Titans improve to 14-15 for the season.

Senior Charlee Underwood scored 21 points while sophomore Toni Thomas added 20 off the bench for CSF. The two Titan leaders combined for 17-for-23 shooting from the floor. Underwood drained four of seven from outside the three-point arc and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Donaghe finished the night with 9-for-13 shooting from the floor and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also hit a pair of three-pointers and recorded two steals.

For UC Davis, senior Heather Bates scored 13 points and freshman guard Anna Harp contributed 11. The Aggies shot 3-for-9 from three-point range in the first half to stake a 29-26 edge, but missed on 10 tries after the break. In contrast, Fullerton was 1-for-10 from long range in the first half and 6-for-10 after the intermission.

The Aggies fought back from an early 15-8 deficit as a Bates jumper and a Donaghe three cut the margin to 15-13. Donaghe later collected her own rebound and drained a three to bring UC Davis within a 19-18 deficit. Bates hit a three-pointer on her team's next possession to give the Aggies a 21-19 lead. With less than 30 seconds remaining, Donaghe picked a steal from Audrey Taylor then assisted Anna Harp on a layup to lift UC Davis to a 29-26 halftime edge.

The Titans stormed back from their halftime deficit to a lead as large as 18 points with 10:51 remaining in the second half. Underwood hit a three-pointer in the opening minutes after the break to tie the game at 29-29, then poured in another to cap a 10-0 Titan run that brought CSF up by 43-31. Andrea Adams later hit a trey that gave Fullerton a 52-34 advantage, its largest lead of the game



The Aggies conclude their 2006-07 season against Big West Conference champion UC Riverside on Saturday. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. at the UCR Student Recreation Center.
