LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Fourth-seeded UC Irvine outscored No. 5 UC Davis 6-2 in overtime on Wednesday night after the teams exchanged buckets in the final 10 seconds of regulation, as the Anteaters edged the Aggies 74-70 in a Big West Tournament quarterfinal women's basketball game at Long Beach State.

"The only thing I have to say is that I'm incredibly proud of our team," Head Coach Jennifer Gross said. "I've never been more proud of a group for how hard the players competed and what they left on the floor. They fought from start to finish. We were a couple possessions short."

Junior Sydnee Fipps scored 22 points on 8-of-15 from the floor -- including six three-pointers -- to lead the Aggies (15-16 overall) while Celia Marfone added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, Kelsey Harris finished with 12, and Heidi Johnson posted 10. Sophomore Molly Greubel finished with a game-high nine assists.

"I am so proud of our group and how we went out," Fipps said. "We had so many people that stepped up. Losing Aly (Doherty) meant a lot, but we had so many other people step up and that made me proud."

Camille Buckley posted a double-double for the Anteaters, scoring 34 points with 17 rebounds -- including a string of 14 consecutive points over a five-minute span in the second half -- while Kelly Meggs added 13 points and Jennifer Tsurumoto tallied 12 including the game-tying layup with two seconds left in regulation.

UC Irvine, 16-14 overall, advances to face top-seeded Cal State Northridge on Friday afternoon at Honda Center.

The Aggies were playing without sophomore post Alyson Doherty, who was injured in their 58-57 first-round win over UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday. Despite being without the All-Big West second-team standout, UC Davis played the Anteaters tough, trailing only 46-40 on the boards and outscoring UC Irvine in the paint, 32-28.

Three's were wild to start the game for the Aggies, who made their first four baskets of the game from beyond the arc to grad the lead at 12-9 just five minutes in. The Anteaters rallied to tie it at 14, but a 7-0 burst by UC Davis gave the Aggies their largest lead of the night at 21-14 with just over eight minutes to go in the period.

The final four minutes saw the score tied twice more, the last coming at 26-all with 3:02 to play, but Fipps, who missed the better part of three minutes of game time after going down with an injury at the six-minute mark, returned to the floor and promptly drained a three to put UC Davis up seconds later. A Marfone trey with 12 ticks left sent the Aggies to the locker room up four, 32-28, at the break.

UC Davis parried numerous thrusts by UC Irvine to start the second half, eventually building a six-point lead at 44-38 on back-to-back baskets by Johnson and Marfone, but the Anteaters began to click behind Buckley, who went on a personal 10-2 run as part of her 14 consecutive points to give her team its first lead since the 17:18 mark of the first half.

UC Irvine held four-point leads three times in the second half, but the teams were tied on four occasions in the last four minutes. Tied 66-66 in the waning seconds, senior Idit Oryon drew a charge to give the ball back to the Aggies with 26.2 left on the clock. Out of a timeout, Fipps passed underneath to Lauren Beyer, who laid in the go-ahead points for the Aggies with nine seconds remaining.

But following back-to-back timeouts, Tsurumoto raced down the right side of the key, laying in the ball with 1.2 seconds to go and forcing overtime. The Anteaters then held UC Davis to just two points in the extra period, beating the Aggies for the third time this year and the second time in the past week.

"We knew we had to come out with a lot of energy," Beyer said. "Any game could be your last. It hurts the most when you don't come out on top, but we're going to stick together as a team and come back stronger next year."

Wednesday's game marked the final contest for UC Davis' lone senior, Oryon. Oryon played 23 minutes in the game, posting four rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.
