CHICO, Calif. - Emily Watson scored 10 points on the night, but her putback with 20 seconds to play resulted in the final margin of victory as Humboldt State defeated UC Davis, 70-68, as both teams opened their season on the first night of the 2002 Coslet Classic Friday evening in front of 144 at Acker Gym.

UC Davis came out strong to open the contest as it held a 36-27 lead at halftime after shooting 47 percent from the field in the first half and holding the Lumberjacks to just 38 percent shooting. But the tables would turn in the final 20 minutes at Humboldt connected on 53 percent of its shots in the second period while UC Davis fell to 40 percent shooting. Trailing by two with 11 seconds remaining UC Davis had a chance to tie the contest when Sarah Allen was fouled and went to the line for two free throws. The senior could not convert and the Aggies would not get another chance to score.

Jennifer DeCuir, playing her first game as an Aggie, led UC Davis with a game-high 17 points, while adding three assists and three rebounds. Allen finished the night with 15 points and nine boards. Senior Colleen Turnbull grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds while point guard Kim Omer was the only other Aggie in double figures, finishing with 10.

Nicole Lynch led the Lumberjacks with 17 points, while Jackie Kolesar and Charlene Murphy each poured in 12 points.

UC Davis will conclude play at the 2002 Coslet Classic on Saturday evening when it faces Southern Oregon at 5:30 p.m. The Raiders dropped an 83-74 contest Friday against host Chico State.
