DAVIS, Calif. -- Junior Dani Nafekh exploded for a career-high 28 points and tied the school's single-game record with eight makes from beyond the arc, helping host UC Davis to a, 75-55, victory over visiting San Diego State on Friday night at The Pavilion.

The Aggies improved to 5-1 overall on the season, also getting 20 points and seven rebounds from sophomore Morgan Bertsch, who hit 9-of-16 from the field en route to her second 20-point scoring performance of the season in 26 minutes. UC Davis finished with a pair of 20-point scorers in the same game for the first time since Rachel Nagel and Pele Gianotti each poured in 20 against Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 13 of last season.

Held to just 30 percent shooting from the floor for the game, the Aztecs were led by 11 points apiece from McKynzie Fort and Lexy Thorderson, but fell to 2-5 overall on the year.

Nafekh finished the night a blistering 10-of-14 from the field to go along with her eight three-pointers, matching Kelsey Harris' single-game mark set against Long Beach State on March 11, 2015. Prior to Friday night, Nafekh -- who actually surpassed her career high with 19 first-half points -- hadn't hit more than three, three-pointers in a game, the last time against Utah Valley en route to a then career-high 17-point night on Dec. 31 of last season.

An 8-0 run over the final 2:18 of the first quarter erased an early two-point deficit and was extended to 13 consecutive points to start the second period as the Aggies raced out to a, 23-12, advantage. Back-to-back three-pointers by Kymberly Ellison snapped the skid for San Diego State and helped the Aztecs on a 10-2 run that cut the UC Davis lead to just three points with 4:46 to play.

That's when the Aggies regained their groove and began to pull away as a junior by Gianotti sparked a 14-0 burst and UC Davis finished the first half on a 19-1 run to head into the locker room up, 44-23, at the break. The Aggies opened the third with five straight points and led by as many as 27 in the quarter as they began to pull away.

San Diego State never got closer than 15 in the final two minutes as Nafekh nailed her record-tying three from the right corner and Nina Bessolo added a lay-up off the glass for the final margin.

UC Davis shot 50 percent from the field for the game -- the third time the Aggies have hit at least that mark in a game this season -- and out-rebounded SDSU, 40-35. Junior Marly Anderson added six points, five rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, in 19 minutes off the bench, while Kourtney Eaton finished with a game-high six assists to go with her eight points.

UC Davis closes out the week with a trip to No. 11 Stanford on Sunday (Dec. 4) at Maples Pavilion. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
