MORAGA, Calif. - Hannah Stephens led four UC Davis players who scored in double figures with 15 points, but Saint Mary's went 25-of-28 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Aggies 49-22 to take a 75-58 women's basketball nonconference victory on Saturday in Moraga.

UC Davis moves to 6-3 overall while Saint Mary's improves to 6-4.

Kasey Riecks scored 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting while Blair Shinoda and Samantha Meggison, who was held scoreless in the first half, each finished with 10 points.

Stephens got UC Davis off to a strong start by knocking down a three on the Aggies' opening possession and the teams traded baskets before Saint Mary's used an 11-3 run to take a 21-12 lead with 11:48 to go.

The offense came to a standstill on either end of the court, however, with neither team scoring a basket until Carli Rosenthal hit a jumper for Saint Mary's at the 7:08 mark.

Saint Mary's continued to hold UC Davis scoreless before Blair Shinoda found Stephens in the lane for the Aggies' first basket in over eight minutes.

The Gaels also used nearly perfect free throw shooting to increase their lead, knocking down eight straight to build a 31-15 lead with 4:34 to go in the first half. UC Davis responded in the closing minutes of the first period with a pair of free throws from Stephens and a basket from Kasey Riecks, cutting the Saint Mary's lead to 14 with 2:59 to play.

Riecks continued to lead UC Davis as the first half came to a close, hitting a three at the 1:47 mark, then a jumper with 43 seconds left in the half. Sydnee Fipps cut the Gaels' lead to ten after she collected her own rebound from a missed trey and laid the ball in. Saint Mary's took a 36-26 lead into halftime.

Much like the start of the first half, the teams went back and forth to start off the second period, answering each other's baskets. Meggison laid one in, then Alex Carbonel responded with a jumper of her own to keep the Gaels up by nine, but Stephens drove down the lane for a layup of her own to get UC Davis back to within seven with 16:12 to play.

With 13:37 left to play, Saint Mary's took back the double-digit lead on a jumper from Jasmine Smith and would hold it for the next four minutes when Meggison converted two free throws to cut the score to 51-40 with 9:11 to play. Stephens would hit a huge three for the Aggies, bringing them to only six points back with 8:31 to go but Smith quickly answered with her own three for Saint Mary's.

Saint Mary's continued to build its lead, outrebounding the Aggies on the offensive end to convert 19 second-chance points and go up by 15 with 6:17 to play.

Stephens hit her second three-point shot of the half to bring the score to 61-49 with 6:04 to go and Shinoda hit the next Aggie shot with under four minutes to play, but Saint Mary's closed the game on a 14-6 run to take the 75-58 victory.

Danielle Mauldin led the Gaels with a double-double performance, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while also hitting 6-of-6 free throws. Smith led all scorers with 19 points while Carbonel added 10.

UC Davis returns to action on Monday, Dec. 18 when the Aggies face Denver to kick off the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout, hosted by Hawai'i in Honolulu.
