SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Ellen Porshneva scored 17 points and the Aggies rallied from a second-half deficit as UC Davis defeated Saint Martin's College 77-73 in the third game of the 2003 Sheraton-Ontario Airport Women's Basketball Tournament before 70 fans Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
With the win the Aggies improve to 5-2 on the season while Saint Martin's falls to 3-6.
Porshneva led the Aggies with 17 points and eight rebounds, one of four players in double figures. Senior guard Kim Omer finished with 12 points and seven assists while Jennifer Decuir added 12 points and four assists and Jessica Campbell scored 12 points with three assists.
Martina Kartikova had a double-double for the Saints with a game-high 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Beth Layton helped the Saints cause with 15 points and nine assists, hitting three bombs from NBA range. Julia Eisentrout had 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out in the closing minutes.
The Aggies shot 42 percent from the field for the game and 81 percent from the free throw line while Saint Martin's shot 41 percent for the game and 87 percent from the foul line.
The battled evenly on the boards with the Saints holding a 41-37 edge.
The game was tied 37-37 at the half.
UC Davis returns to California Collegiate Athletic Association play on December 29 when travels to Chico State for a 7 p.m. meeting against the Wildcats.
