Game 12: UC Davis (5-6) at Pacific (10-2)

UC Davis closed out the nonconference portion of its schedule in thrilling fashion, taking Sacramento State to overtime before falling 66-65 at The Nest on Dec. 30.
Sydnee Fipps was UC Davis' leading scorer for the ninth time this year after recording her first career double-double... She scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
Fipps has scored in double digits in all 11 games this year.
The Aggies are in the midst of playing four straight road games and six of seven games away from Davis... UC Davis will not return to The Pavilion until Jan. 17.
Pacific is the top team in the Big West after closing out nonconference with a 10-2 record and an undefeated 6-0 home record... It is Pacific's best start since joining the Big West Conference in 1984-85.
The 2012-13 season marks the Tigers' final year as members of the Big West Conference... Starting in 2013-14, Pacific will compete in the West Coast Conference.
Kendall Rodriguez is Pacific's leading scorer at 12.1 points per game while Kendall Kenyon is averaging 10.5 rebounds per game for the Tigers.
UC Davis opens Big West play on the road for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
Jennifer Gross begins her second season as head coach of the UC Davis women's basketball team after leading the Aggies to their third consecutive postseason appearance in 2011-12... In her first year at the helm of the program, the Aggies saw several milestones including Kasey Riecks' 1000th career point and Samantha Meggison and Hannah Stephens' selections to the All-Big West Conference team.
Lynne Roberts led the Tigers to the WNIT last season as Pacific advanced to the second round with the program's first-ever postseason victory... The Tigers' 18 wins in 2011-12 marked the highest win total in 10 seasons... She begins her seventh season as head coach of Pacific women's basketball.

Pacific is having its best start since the 1984-85 season, its first as a member of the Big West Conference, after finishing the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 10-2 record.
The Tigers are also undefeated at the Alex G. Spanos Center with a 6-0 record.
Most recently, Pacific defeated CSU Bakersfield 102-60 on Dec. 31 for its third straight win... The Tigers scored 100 points in a game for the eighth time in program history.
Kendall Kenyon is averaging 11.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and is one of just 37 players in the NCAA averaging a double-double.
Kendall Rodriguez is Pacific's leading scorer at 12.1 points per game... She scored her 1,000th career point against San Francisco on Dec. 29.
Pacific is in its final season as a member of the Big West Conference and will join the West Coast Conference for the 2013-14 season.
UC Davis owns a 12-9 series advantage over Pacific after picking up two regular-season victories in 2011-12.
The teams have split the regular season series every year since 2007-08.
Prior to the 2007-08 season, UC Davis had won six straight games against Pacific.
LAST TIME OUT
Sydnee Fipps collected her first career double-double in the Dec. 30 overtime loss to Sacramento State, scoring 19 points and grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds.
Fipps led three Aggies in double figures as Cortney French and Heidi Johnson each scored 12 points.
Johnson also collected six rebounds, a career hight for the Aggie freshman, while Blair Shinoda had a career-high five steals.
French sank a three-point shot with just 10 seconds left in overtime to give UC Davis a 65-64 lead, but Sacramento State's Alle Moreno hit a runner in the lane with just 1.2 seconds left for the 66-65 Hornet victory.
Sacramento State came away with 10 points in the Causeway Cup standings.
LET'S GET IT STARTED
UC Davis opens Big West Conference play on the road for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
The Aggies also face a new opponent to start league play for the first time since 2008-09... UC Davis has started Big West play against Cal State Fullerton for the last three straight seasons.
UC Davis has lost its last three straight conference openers and are 3-2 to start Big West play.
2012-13 is UC Davis' sixth season as a member of the Big West.
Sydnee Fipps continues to lead UC Davis in scoring and is averaging 18.6 points per game... That ranks her fourth all-time in Aggie women's basketball single-season history.
She collected her first career double-double on Dec. 30 at Sacramento State, scoring 19 points to go with a career-high 12 rebounds.
Her 11-game double-digit scoring streak is the longest by any Aggie since Paige Mintun scored in double figures in 17 straight games during the 2010-11 season.
Last year, Fipps scored in double digits in just four games during the entire 2011-12 season.
She is tied for 36th in Div. I in points per game and is No. 2 in scoring in the Big West.
ALY'S BLOCK PARTY
Freshman Alyson Doherty has recorded 13 blocks so far this year after swatting three at Sacramento State on Dec. 30 for the second time this season.
Doherty has registered at least one block in all but two games this season and is averaging 1.3 blocks per game, ranking fourth in the Big West.
She needs just 16 more blocks to move into the single-season top-10 list for blocks... Ellen Porshneva currently ranks tenth in a single season with 28 blocks in the 2003-04.
LINE `EM UP
UC Davis used five different lineups to start the 2012-13 season, but have settled on the same one for the last five straight games.
Alyson Doherty, Sydnee Fipps, Celia Marfone, Blair Shinoda and Cortney French are 3-2 since starting together on Dec. 16 in a 70-59 win over Santa Clara.
UC Davis is in the midst of a lenthy road trip and are playing 6-of-7, and four straight, away from Davis beginning with the Dec. 21 win at USC... The Dec. 28 loss to Washington marked the lone home game for UC Davis during the stretch.
The Aggies, however, are currently 4-2 on the road - including wins over neutral site opponents Navy and CSU Bakersfield.
Until Sunday's 66-65 overtime loss to Sacramento State, UC Davis had won four straight road contests.
TOO MANY TURNOVERS
UC Davis has committed at least 22 turnovers in each of the last five games, including 25 against USC (Dec. 21) and CSUB (Dec. 22).
That averages to 23.8 turnovers per game.
Aggie opponents are averaging just 16.6 turnovers per game over the last five games and have turned UC Davis' turnovers into 20.6 points per game over the last five games.
