DAVIS, Calif. — A four-year standout on the court, UC Davis senior guard Dani Nafekh has now been honored for her performance off of it, named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District second team on Thursday.
Nafekh becomes only the second Aggie to earn all-district honors in the program’s Division I history, joining Jessica Campbell, who earned a spot on the second team in 2007-08, and is only the fifth time that a UC Davis student-athlete has been so honored since 1998-99, joining Campbell, Sarah Allen (first team in 2002-03), and Kristen Coolidge (1st team in both 1998-99 and 1999-00).
The managerial economics major from Oakville, Ontario, holds a 3.91 GPA and has started all 26 games for the Aggies this season, helping them to a 22-4 overall record, a 12-1 mark in Big West Conference play, and at least a share of the league title for the second straight year.
Nafekh enters the home stretch of the 2017-18 regular season ranking fifth on the UC Davis all-time list for career assists with 348, while putting up one of the finest shooting performances behind the arc as a junior, ranking second on the single-season list with a .462 three-point percentage and eighth with 61 three-pointers made last year.
Averaging 6.8 points and 2.5 assists per game in just under 25 minutes per contest this season, she has reached double figures in scoring six times this season, including a season-high 18 points in a home victory over UC Riverside on Jan. 11. She also ranks tied for third in the Big West in three-point percentage (.429) and is tied for ninth in three-pointers per game (1.6).
UC Davis returns to the court on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 2:30 p.m., hosting UC Irvine at The Pavilion, where Nafekh, along with fellow seniors Marly Anderson, Pele Gianotti, and Rachel Nagel, will be honored prior to tip-off as part of “Senior Day” ceremonies at approximately 2:15 p.m.
