DAVIS, Calif. - Sydnee Fipps, who drained a career-high five three-pointers in Thursday's win over UC Irvine and who averaged 18.0 ppg. in UC Davis' two games, was named the Big West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Fipps, a 5-foot-10 forward from Mariposa, was instrumental in the Aggies' key win at Irvine. She scored 19 points in the game and grabbed a team-high tying seven rebounds for UC Davis which rallied from a late nine-point deficit to win 47-43.
Fipps hit 5 of 9 from beyond the arc, including scoring 12 straight points for UC Davis with three-pointers during the second half. Her bucket with 5 minutes, 3 seconds to go in the second half started a 13-0 Aggie run the rest of the way that resulted in the four-point win.
During Saturday's tough 66-54 loss at Long Beach State, she hit four more three-pointers and finished with 17 points and six rebounds. For the week, she hit 56.3 percent of her shots from three-point territory, and 50 percent of her shots overall.
Fipps is the second UC Davis player to earn the honor this season, joining senior Cortney who was named player of the week in November.
UC Davis is 12-16 overall and 7-10 in the Big West Conference heading into Saturday's regular-season finale against Pacific. Tipoff at The Pavilion is 4:30 p.m.
