DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's basketball will meet Cal State Northridge for the second time in a week when the fifth-seeded Aggies and eighth-seeded Matadors face off in the first round of the Big West Tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center on Wednesday at noon.

The game can be heard live on KDVS (90.3 FM).

UC Davis finished the regular season 11-17 overall and 7-9 in the Big West Conference, capping its fifth-place finish with an exciting 53-50 win over Cal State Northridge at The Matadome last Wednesday. The Aggies also beat the Matadors 86-66 at The Pavilion on Jan. 4.

Sixth-seeded Cal State Fullerton will battle seventh-seeded UC Irvine in Wednesday's other first-round game which will begin 30 minutes after the Aggies' and Matadors' matchup.

UC Santa Barbara claimed the top seed in the tournament and advances automatically to Friday's semifinals. Second-seeded UC Riverside also earned a bye into the semis. Third-seeded Cal Poly will play Thursday against the lowest remaining seed at noon while fourth-seeded Pacific will play the highest remaining seed at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Saturday's championship game will begin at 1 p.m. and be televised by FSN Prime Ticket. The winner receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

UC Davis is making its second straight appearance in the conference tournament after advancing to last year's title game in just its first year of Big West membership. The Aggies subsequently played in the Women's National Invitational Tournament finishing their first year at the NCAA Division I level with an impressive 19-12 record.
