DAVIS, Calif. - Road trips to Connecticut and Stanford plus a season-opening home game against USC precede a tough Big West Conference slate on the 2013-14 UC Davis women's basketball schedule, head coach Jennifer Gross announced on Monday.

The Aggies will visit reigning NCAA national champion UConn on Dec. 5 with a return visit at The Pavilion on tap for the 2014-15 season.

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to measure ourselves against the very best," Gross said. "These games against the Huskies will each be an incredible experience for our student-athletes and exciting for our fans over the next two seasons."

UC Davis will open the season at home against the Women of Troy on Nov. 8, after defeating USC last season in Los Angeles. The Aggies then visit the Cardinal on Nov. 17. Stanford won both the Pac-12 regular season and tournament championships last year and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

In other non-conference action, UC Davis will host San Jose State, Houston Baptist, Simpson and rival Sacramento State at The Pavilion. The Aggies will battle the Hornets on Dec. 28 as part of the Causeway Cup. The Aggies will hit the road for non-league games at Pacific, Hofstra, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara and will play both San Francisco and Akron at a tournament hosted by Cal Poly.

UC Davis opens Big West Conference play at home in January against Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State and wraps up the regular season at The Pavilion as well, hosting UC Riverside and UC Irvine in early March. The Big West Tournament will run from March 11-15, with the championship game at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

"Games against some of the nation's top teams and a number of talented West Coast opponents will certainly help prepare us for a competitive Big West Conference schedule," Gross added. "Our talented young group has taken tremendous strides in the offseason and we look forward to getting our amazing fans out to The Pavilion to cheer us on this year."

Gross and the Aggies return their leading scorer and leading rebounder off last year's roster in rising junior Sydnee Fipps, who averaged 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Fipps was a first team all-Big West Conference selection last year after leading the league in scoring in conference games.

Senior forward Idit Oryon will be back to provide veteran leadership while both Brianna Salvatore and Kelsey Harris will be coming off redshirt seasons. Salvatore earned a medical hardship after playing in six games last year as a junior before going down with a season-ending injury. Harris sat out the season after transferring from Iowa State. Both will be juniors next season.

Forward Lauren Beyer is coming off a second straight redshirt year as the Elk Grove, Calif., native has battled injuries since early in her freshman season but is healthy now and ready to get back on the floor.

Molly Greubel, Alyson Doherty, Heidi Johnson and Celia Marfone are also back after combining to start 53 games and average 18.7 points per game in their freshmen seasons.

Gross welcomes two newcomers to the roster this season. Athletic wing Taylor McGuire (Ventura, Calif./Buena HS) joins the Aggies after playing with the California Storm Team Taurasi, one of the nation's premier club teams, while point guard Brianne Yasukochi (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) will come to UC Davis after leading her high school squad to a 2013 CIF San Diego Section Div. IV championship.

Season tickets cost just $70 for the general public and are $60 for UC Davis faculty, staff, retirees and CAAA members. Season tickets are only $45 for children 17-and-under. Tickets can be purchased online HERE
