Nov. 10, 2011
UC Davis (0-0) vs. Washington (0-0)
Friday, Nov. 11 - 1 p.m.
Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion
UC Davis and Washington have met on just one other occasion: Nov. 18, 2007 in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic in Honolulu.
The Aggies were led by Tournament MVP Anna Harp who scored 21 points against the Huskies... She was one of four Aggies in double figures.
Jennifer Gross was named UC Davis' head coach on Oct. 8, 2010 after Sandy Simpson announced his retirement after 14 seasons... Gross was a Kodak All-American honorable mention point guard for the Aggies during her senior season in 1997-98... Prior to her appointment as head coach, she was an assistant at San Diego State before returning to her alma mater in 2004.
Kevin McGuff became the ninth head coach in Washington program history in spring 2011 and begins his 20th season professionally... Most recently, McGuff spent nine seasons as head coach at Xavier University where he compiled a 213-73 record, set a record for most wins in program history and reached the postseason in each season he coached.
WASHINGTON SCOUTING REPORT
Behind first-year head coach Kevin McGuff, Washington is paced by a veteran squad led by four seniors: Regina Rogers, Mollie Williams, Charmaine Barlow and Mackenzie Argens.
The experience will hopefully compensate for the loss of guard Kristi Kingma, the all-conference scorer who will miss the 2011-12 season with a torn ACL... Kingma averaged 15.6 points per game last year.
Rogers played less than 20 minutes per game in 2010-11, but averaged 10.0 points... Argens set a career-high in both points per game (7.1) and rebounds (5.9) last year.
The Huskies also welcome six newcomers to its roster in 2011-12, including local products Talia Walton and Aminah Williams... The 6-2 Walton averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds per season at Federal Way High School... Williams scored over 19.0 points per game for Kennedy High School.
Friday's contest will air on KDVS 90.3 FM with Ben Taylor and Steve Vote on the call beginning at 12:45 p.m.... The broadcast will also be simulcast on ucdavisaggies.com via Game Central by Stretch Internet.
Gametracker live stats will also be available via www.ucdavisaggies.com.
The 2011-12 season marks the fourth straight year in which UC Davis will open its season on the road.
The Aggies have won the last three straight season openers and have done so by at least 20 points in each contest... UC Davis beat San Francisco last year by a 69-45 score, defeated Seattle - which the Aggies face on Sunday - by a 71-49 margin in 2009-10 and topped Southern Utah by a 64-44 score in 2008-09... The lone season opener at home was during the 2007-08 season - UC Davis' first official year in Div. I - when the Aggies easily defeated crosstown rival Sacramento State 68-39.
Matt Klemin joins the UC Davis coaching staff for his first season in 2011-12... Most recently Klemin spent two years as part of the coaching staff at Vanguard University where he helped direct the Lions' defense, served as recruiting coordinator and prepared scouting reports... Klemin is a 2005 graduate of Cal Poly.
On the court, Lauren Beyer, Sydnee Fipps and Emily Vann are the newest Aggies on the squad... Beyer is from nearby Elk Grove, Calif. and led Bradshaw Christian School to four CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section titles... Fipps averaged 23.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 steals in her senior season at Yosemite HS... Vann is a two-time Bay Shore Athletic League MVP who led Saint Mary's College HS to back-to-back CIF State Championship Div. IV title games in 2010 and 2011... All three freshmen are McDonald's High School All-America nominees.
NOTABLE NON-CONFERENCE GAMES
UC Davis hosts its home opener on Nov. 16 against San Jose State, the first of three straight home games for the Aggies.

The Aggies will travel to Honolulu for a three-day tournament Dec. 18-20 and will play Denver, Portland State and Hawai'i to close out their nonconference slate.
