OPENING TIPS
• UC Davis is 3-0 after cruising to a 20-point win in its home opener on Wednesday, defeating San Jose State 80-60 at The Pavilion.
• The Aggies shot only 30 percent from the floor, but knocked down 31-of-36 free throws in the win.
• UC Davis' 3-0 start to the season mirrors the Aggies' 4-0 start to the 2010-11 season in which UC Davis won the Big West Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Div. I Tournament for the first time in program history.
• Wichita State is 1-2 after dropping a 74-60 decision to Arizona at the McKale Center in Tucson on Thursday.
• Wichita State finished fifth in the Missouri Vally Conference with an overall record of 17-15 last season.
• UC Davis' trip to Wichita State marked the first meeting between the two programs with the Aggies claiming a 78-66 win.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• UC Davis is 1-0 against Wichita State after winning the only matchup between the two programs last season.
• In the win, the Aggies scored 25 unanswered points over a 10-minute span of the first half en route to a 78-66 win at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan.

HEAD COACHES
Jennifer Gross was named UC Davis' head coach on Oct. 8, 2010 after Sandy Simpson announced his retirement after 14 seasons... Gross was a Kodak All-American honorable mention point guard for the Aggies during her senior season in 1997-98... Prior to her appointment as head coach, she was an assistant at San Diego State before returning to her alma mater in 2004.

• Jody Adams begins her fourth season with Wichita State and has led the Shockers to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in a decade... Under her direction, the Shockers returned to the Women's National Invitation Tournament last year, marking the first trip back to the postseason since 2000.

WICHITA STATE SCOUTING REPORT
• The Shockers are receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll for the first time in program history and faced a BCS-level opponent for the second straight game in their 74-60 loss to Arizona on Thursday.
• Prior to Thursday's game, Wichita State also faced #21 LSU on Monday, dropping a 64-56 decision despite leading midway through the second half... Wichita State attempted a school-record 37 three-point shots.
• Junior Jessica Diamond is the team's leading scorer and has come off the bench in all three games to average 14.7 points per contest... She is shooting 54 percent from the floor and has knocked down 6-of-13 from three-point land.
• Chynna Turner is also averaging solid numbers for Wichita State, averaging 8.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

LAST TIME OUT
• Despite shooting only 30 percent from the floor, UC Davis cruised to an 80-60 victory over San Jose State in the Aggies' home opener on Wednesday at The Pavilion.
• Nearly half of UC Davis' 80 points came from strong shooting at the free throw line as the Aggies knocked down 31-of-36 from the charity stripe... Hannah Stephens was 7-of-8 while Samantha Meggison was 6-of-7... Blair Shinoda was a perfect 6-of-6 from the line.
• Freshmen Sidney Fipps and Emily Vann provided a spark off the bench for UC Davis as Fipps hit three treys and Vann poured in seven points, hitting 2-of-4 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
• The Aggie defense came up big again, forcing 30 San Jose State turnovers en route to 28 points off those turnovers.

HISTORY REPEATED?
• Under the direction of first-year head coach Jennifer Gross, UC Davis is off to a 3-0 start to the 2011-12 season.
• The Aggies started last year's historical season at 4-0... UC Davis finished last year with a 24-9 overall record, a Big West Tournament championship and the team's first-ever appearance at the NCAA Div. I Tournament.
• In 2007-08, UC Davis' inaugural season in the Big West Conference, the Aggies started out with a 5-0 record before finishing 19-12 overall and advancing to the WNIT.

SO FRESH
• The three newest members of the UC Davis women's basketball team have turned in veteran-level performances for the Aggies so far in the 2011-12 season.
• Against San Jose State on Wednesday, Sydnee Fipps dropped three treys to finish with nine points... Fipps is averaging 5.3 points per game and all five of the baskets she's scored have been three pointers.
Emily Vann made her season debut on Wednesday to the tune of seven points and four rebounds... Vann went 2-of-4 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
Lauren Beyer has appeared against both Seattle and San Jose State so far this year, most recently scoring against the Spartans as well as recording a steal and a rebound.

HOME SWEET HOME
• With Wednesday's win over San Jose State, UC Davis have won the last six straight home openers.
• Last season UC Davis posted a 13-game winning streak at The Pavilion which was snapped by Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 31, 2010 in the Big West Conference opener.
• In 2010-11, UC Davis went 12-3 overall in Davis and were a perfect 7-0 during home nonconference games.

CAREER WATCH LIST: Hana Asano
• Senior guard Hana Asano officially moved into the all-time career list for steals in the UC Davis record books.
• Her five steals over San Jose State on Wednesday brings her career total to 162, solidifying her in eighth overall.
• Asano passed Paige Mintun's 159 career steals for eighth place on Wednesday... In seventh is Jackie Turpin (2002-06) who finished her career with 201 steals.

AGGIES JUMP TO #21 IN COLLEGEINSIDER.COM MID-MAJOR TOP 25 POLL
• With key road wins over Washington and Seattle, UC Davis jumped to No. 21 on the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll on Tuesday.
• UC Davis received votes in the publication's preseason poll.
• Cal Poly is the only other Big West team represented in the poll as the Mustangs are receiving votes.
• Last season, UC Davis was ranked as high as No. 8 and were a mainstay in the rankings throughout 2010-11... The Aggies were also consistently the highest-ranked Big West team throughout all of last year.

GROSS SIGNS FIVE NEW AGGIES FOR 2012
• Aniya Baker, Molly Greubel, Heidi Johnson, Celia Marfone and Alyson Doherty each singed National Letters of Intent with UC Davis and will join the women's basketball porgram in the fall of 2012, it was announced by Jennifer Gross.

• Aniya Baker, a 5-foot-8 guard, comes from Perris High School in Perris, Calif... During her junior season, she filled up the stat sheet with 17.5 points, 4.7 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game, helping Perris to finish 19-9 on the season... Baker tallied 20-plus points in 12 games, pouring in a season-high 28 points against Blair HS in late December.

• Molly Greubel, a 5-foot-9 guard, comes from Foothill High School in Santa Ana Calif... She managed a career-high 14.7 points per game as a junior in addition to 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest... She also played alongside Blair Shinoda during a historic season at Foothill HS in 2008-09 as the pair led the Knights to a 30-2 overall record, a perfect 10-0 league record and a CIF Southern Section Div. III State Championship.

• Heidi Johnson, a 6-foot-2 forward, comes from Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif.... She led the Bears in scoring and rebounding as a junior with 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game... Johnson finished in double figures in rebounding in a total of 15 games while collecting 12 double-doubles in the process.

• Celia Marfone, a 6-foot-0 forward, comes from Laguna Hills High School in Laguna Calif... She averaged a near double-double as a junior with 14.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, shooting just under 42 percent from the field... While helping Laguna Hills to a first place finish in the South Coast League in each of the last three seasons, Marfone garnered First Team All-League accolades in each year... She was also named the South Coast League and Team MVP in 2010-11.

• Alyson Doherty, a 6-foot-3 forward, comes from El Toro High School in Lake Forest, Calif... She averaged a double-double in her most recent season as a junior, tallying 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game to go along with 2.2 blocks per contest and a 73.7 percent clip from the charity stripe... Doherty was named First Team All-South Coast League for her efforts and earned Team MVP honors.
