UC Davis looks for its first win of the season in Texas as the Aggies travel to the Houston Baptist Husky Classic, hosted by Houston Baptist Nov. 23-24 at Sharp Gymnasium in Houston.
The Aggies open the tournament by facing Navy at 3 p.m. PT before taking on the host Huskies on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT.
Despite a career-high 26 points from Sydnee Fipps, UC Davis dropped a 72-65 decision at San Francisco on Nov. 14 at War Memorial Gym... Fipps also had a career-high five steals.
UC Davis is 0-2 for the first time since 2006-07... That year, the Aggies lost three straight before defeating San Francisco State 74-40 for the first win of the season.
The Aggies face Navy and Houston Baptist for the first time in program history. Navy won its second straight Patriot League Tournament championship last season to advance to the NCAA Tournament... The Midshipmen return four starters and nine total players.
The Mids have posted back-to-back wins after starting the year with back-to-back losses to move to 2-2.
Houston Baptist returns all five starters from a 2011-12 squad that went 1-27 and 0-10 in the Great West Conference last year... The Huskies' lone win this year came against Shreiner on Nov. 12.
The Huskies host St. Thomas on Wednesday to begin a four-game homestand. Shanice Steenholdt is averaging 15.5 points per game while Tayler Jefferson is scoring 10.3 points per game.
UC Davis is facing Navy and Houston Baptist for the first time in program history.
Jennifer Gross begins her second season as head coach of the UC Davis women's basketball team after leading the Aggies to their third consecutive postseason appearance in 2011-12... In her first year at the helm of the program, the Aggies saw several milestones including Kasey Riecks' 1000th career point and Samantha Meggison and Hannah Stephens' selections to the All-Big West Conference team.
Stefanie Pemper enters her sixth year with Navy and is the 2011 Patriot League Coach of the Year... That year, Pemper guided the Mids to a share of the regular-season title, Navy's first in 13 seasons, and the program's first-ever tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance... The Midshipmen repeated as tournament champions in 2012 to advance to their second straight NCAA Tournament.
Mary Gleason enters her third year as head coach of Houston Baptist, coaching the Huskies through a season of injury after both leading scorers went down to season-ending injuries... Prior to Houston Baptist, Gleason was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Dartmouth, helping the team to back-to-back Ivy League championships in 2008 and 2009... Gleason has also assisted at Princeton and New York University.

NAVY SCOUTING REPORT
Two-time Patriot League Tournament champion Navy was selected to win the conference in 2012-13 while junior forward Jade Geif was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year.
The Mids picked up their second straight win with a 71-60 victory over Loyola on Tuesday, leading by as many as 20 points in the first half.
Geif recorded a double-double in the win, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 boards... She's averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds ber game.
Kara Pollinger and Alix Membreno are each averaging double figures in points... Pollinger is scoring a team-leading 12.5 points per game while Membreno is averaging 12.3 ppg.
Membreno is also the Mids' leading rebounder at 6.5 boards per game.
SCOUTING HOUSTON BAPTIST
The Huskies are 1-3 on the year and have dropped two in a row heading in to Wednesday's contest against St. Thomas at Sharp Gym.
Sophomore Shanice Steenholdt is averaging a double-double on the season with 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game... She scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the Huskies' loss to New Mexico on Sunday for her third double-double in just four games this season... It was her 19th double-double in 21 career games.
Tayler Jeferson is averaging 10.3 points per game while sophomore Erin McGarrachan is averaging 7.3 boards per game.
The Huskies' roster is comprised of just two seniors, no juniors, six sophomore and freshmen as Houston Baptist returns all five starters from last season.
LAST TIME OUT
UC Davis moved to 0-2 on the year after dropping a 72-65 decision to San Francisco at War Memorial Gym in San Francisco on Nov. 14.
Sydnee Fipps led all scorers in the loss, pouring in a career-high 26 points to go with three rebounds and a career-high five steals.
Fipps shot 8-of-13 from the field and hit 8-of-11 free throws... She also knocked down 2-of-4 from long range.
Brianna Salvatore led the Aggies in rebounding for the second straight game, grabbing 7 boards to tie a career-high mark.
AGGIES WELCOME TAYLOR MCGUIRE
Taylor McGuire, a 5-foot-11 guard out of Buena High School in Ventura, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Aggies in the fall of 2013.
McGuire is a two-time All-Channel League first team honoree and led Buena HS to the CIF Southern Section championship game as a sophomore in 2010-11.
She averaged 16.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a junior.
Sydnee Fipps is averaging 22.5 points per game after scoring 19 against Pepperdine (Nov. 9), then besting her career-high just one game later with 26 points at San Francisco (Nov. 14).
She is shooting 65 percent from the field and is 17-of-21 at the free throw line (.810).
Fipps leads the Big West in field goal percentage and steals (3.0 per game)... She is also second in scoring with 22.5 points per game.
The 26 points at USF on Nov. 14 was the highest scoring output by an Aggie since Jessica Campbell scored 29 against the Dons on Dec. 20, 2007.
BRI ON THE BOARDS
Junior Brianna Salvatore is the Aggies' leading rebounder, with 7.0 boards per game.
She matched a career-high with 7 rebounds in the season opener against Pepperdine (Nov. 9), then repeated that at USF on Nov. 14.
Her 7.0 rebounds per game average ranks her ninth in the Big West.
FREE THROW FINESSE
UC Davis is the No. 2 free throw-shooting team in the conference with a .737 percentage from the charity stripe.
The Aggies are 42-of-57 from the line... Sydnee Fipps is 17-of-21 (.810) while freshman Molly Greubel has made 10-of-12 (.833)... Greubel and Emily Vann are tied for fourth in the Big West with a .833 percentage.
Last season UC Davis shot .698 from the line, ranking fifth in the Big West... Blair Shinoda shot 79 percent from the charity stripe.
SEARCHING FOR A "W"
UC Davis is 0-2 to start the year for the first time since 2006-07.
That year, UC Davis started the season 0-3 before defeating San Francisco State 74-40 at The Pavilion.
UC Davis also went 0-2 to start the 2005-06 season but finished 16-12 overall.
