CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25
DAVIS, Calif. -- A historic start to the 2017-18 season has the UC Davis women's basketball team enjoying a meteoric rise up the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major top 25 poll, settling in at No. 8 according to the latest rankings released on Tuesday afternoon.
Since its debut at No. 20 in the website's preseason poll, the Aggies have made steady progress up the rankings over the last three weeks, moving up three spots to No. 17 on Nov. 14 and No. 11 on Nov. 21, before breaching the top 10 this week.
Following a perfect 3-0 week on the road around the Thanksgiving holiday, the Aggies are off to the best start in the program's Division I history at 6-0 this season, coming off wins over Pacific, Southern Utah, and Seattle, by an average of 28 points per game. The start is the program's best since UC Davis opened the 1994 season with a 7-0 mark, while the six consecutive wins -- which ranks as the fifth-longest active winning streak in the country thus far -- is the longest winning streak for the Aggies since they won 10 straight from Jan. 26 to March 4 of last season.
Entering the week as one of 27 remaining unbeaten teams in the nation, UC Davis is averaging 82.2 points per game as a team, which ranks No. 25 in the nation, while standing among the top 25 in eight more NCAA categories including: three-point percentage (sixth), three-pointers per game (ninth), assists per game (ninth), three-pointers made (10th), overall assists (10th), field goal percentage (11th), defensive rebounds (12th), and assist-to-turnover ratio (24th).
Sitting atop the Big West Conference, the Aggies also pace the league in 11 different categories and rank among the top three in six others.
UC Davis already owns a win over a team receiving votes in the Associated Press preseason top 25 (Washington State), and will face another nationally ranked squad in No. 21/19 Oregon State on the road in Corvallis, Ore., on Dec. 20. Having already posted a win over Pepperdine, which is receiving votes in this week's mid-major poll, match-ups against mid-major No. 12 Saint Mary's (Dec. 9) as well as receiving votes Yale (Dec. 28) also lie ahead for the Aggies.
