Complete CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll (Dec. 12)
DAVIS, Calif. -- A historic start that grew to nine consecutive victories with a pair of wins last week has pushed the UC Davis women's basketball team into the top five of this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll, as the Aggies open the week as the No. 5 team in the nation according to the latest poll released on Tuesday afternoon.
Opening the season at No. 20 in the preseason poll, the Aggies have made steady progress up the rankings over the last three weeks, moving up three spots to No. 17 on Nov. 14, and No. 11 on Nov. 21, before settling into the top 10 in back-to-back weeks on Nov. 28 and Dec. 5.
In the second RPI release of the year, UC Davis also made another jump, up five spots this week to No. 42 -- it's highest since reaching No. 40 on Dec. 29 of last season.
Standing at 9-0 following wins over San Francisco and Saint Mary's -- the latter ranked No. 12 in the mid-major poll at the time -- the Aggies are one of 12 remaining unbeaten teams in the nation, joining the likes of Ball State, Florida State, Louisville, Mississippi State, New Mexico, USC, Syracuse, Tennessee, UConn, Villanova, and West Virginia.
Riding the sixth-longest active winning streak in the nation, and winners of 11 straight at home, UC Davis ranks among the top 25 in the nation in eight different categories entering the week -- including the top 10 in three-point percentage (.434), assists per game (21.0), defensive rebounds per game (31.0), and field goal percentage (.495).
The Aggies also rank No. 11 in overall assists (189), No. 13 in three-pointers per game (9.9), No. 16 in three-pointers made (89), and No. 17 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.39). UC Davis leads the Big West Conference in 12 different categories, and ranks in the top three in four others.
