Over 960 student-athletes representing 76 schools were named to the 2017 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.


Sixteen Aggies named to America East Honor Roll

With 80 percent of UC Davis field hockey's student-athletes earning a 3.0 grade point average or higher, the Aggies ranked second among the America East Conference's nine competing programs.

UC Davis draws No. 21 Albany in playoff quarterfinal

The Aggies will begin their run at the America East Conference Championship on Nov. 2 against No. 21 Albany at 1 p.m. (ET).

2016: ALL-AMERICA EAST COMMISSIONER'S HONOR ROLL... Set a new program record for the most assists in a single game when she recorded two vs. LIU Brooklyn (9/25), also tying a single-game program record... Started all 12 games played... Scored a goal vs. LIU Brooklyn (9/25) and at Cal (10/2)... Recorded assists vs. LIU Brooklyn and at Stanford (10/21)... Five of her seven shots were on goal... Posted season-highs of three points and two shots on goal vs. LIU Brooklyn and Albany (11/3), in the America East Tournament quarterfinals respectively.

ZAG FIELD HOCKEY/NFHCA DIVISION I NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD SELECTION... Started 15 of 19 games played... Scored her first collegiate goal at Holy Cross (9/10)... Collected her first assist as an Aggie two games later at Hofstra (9/13)... Both of her shots were on goal... Recorded a team-high two defensive saves by making a stop at Northwestern (9/15) and vs. Pacific (9/25).

 GLADIATOR BY SGI/NFHCA DIVISION I NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD... NORPAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (11/4)... Tied for No. 3 in the conference with one shutout and No. 6 in saves (42)... Competed in all 18 games, earning one start as a position player when UC Davis hosted Cal (9/19)... Of those 18 games, Sooy was the team's goalkeeper in nine... Also started eight games in goal for the Aggies... Earned her first win in the cage when UC Davis hosted Pacific (10/12)... Recorded 42 saves throughout her nine games in goal... Stopped a season-high six shots at Miami (OH) (10/26) and at Stanford (10/31)... Received NorPac Player of the Week accolades for her performance at Stanford... Collected her first career shutout to help UC Davis finish third at the NorPac Tournament... The Aggies blanked Cal (11/8) by a 1-0 score.

ARCHBISHOP MITTY HS '14: Three-year varsity field hockey, one-year soccer and badminton letterwinner... Named a starter on Archbishop Mitty's field hockey team as a member of its back line... Named the team's most inspirational player in her junior season... That year, Sooy also received Blossom Valley Athletic League first team and Central Coast Section second team recognition... Voted team captain in her senior season... Capped her field hockey career with BVAL and CCS first team honors.... By maintaining a 3.75 GPA or above, she was named to her school's Principal Honor Roll all four years... Also receive academic excellence for holding a 4.0 GPA or higher in seven semesters.

PERSONAL: Born in San Jose, California... Daughter of Linda and Chris Sooy... Communication major... Most people do not know that she is a huge Beyonce fan... Scoring the winning goal in a CCS playoff semifinal game is her career sports highlight... Archbishop Mitty advanced to the finals and won... Kerry Lee Walsh (also an Archbishop alum) is her sports hero... Would like to establish a career and become financially stable before she turns 30... Seeking a career as a broadcast journalist or humanitarian... If her life were an autobiography, she feels that "Eat. Sleep. School. Field Hockey" is an appropriate title.
