Whit Ryan will continue his extensive involvement in the sport of field hockey as UC Davis' new assistant coach. Ryan and fellow assistant Mary Kathryn Nielsen complete interim head coach Austin Pile's coaching staff.Ryan brings with him a unique experience as a field hockey player, coach and official.
In a playing career that originated in Ohio, at the club level, Ryan then competed throughout Europe before returning to the U.S. to pursue a degree at the University of Colorado. In addition to his technical theater classes, Ryan spent time on the field as a goalkeepers coach, instructing some of Colorado's most talented netminders at the high school and collegiate levels.
Under Ryan's tutelage, numerous players were able to continue their playing careers at some of the most prestigious Division I programs in the nation; a handful even received invitations to train with, and compete for U.S. Field Hockey.
Prior to his arrival in Davis, Ryan assisted the Denver Field Hockey Club as an assistant coach, specializing in goalkeeper development.
A 2012 Colorado graduate, Ryan also serves as the CEO/Executive Director of Louder Than Words Dance Theater, a modern and jazz company that offers classes, open rehearsals and performs throughout the year. Whit is also a member of the Colorado Dance Alliance, his work has been recognized by the Denver Theater Guild, and the United States Personal Chef Association.
