E-Mail Coach Miller

Former Michigan State staff member Zach Miller completes field hockey's staff as its second assistant coach. Miller, who enters his second season on staff with fellow assistant Kate Murphy, will help Huisman with all recruiting, travel, fundraising, alumni outreach and administrative duties.

Besides instructing the Aggies' goalkeepers, he will also film, break down, analyze, and organize all practices and games.

In addition to advancing to the NCAA Tournament in each of Miller's three seasons, the Spartans also captured a 2009 Big Ten regular season and Tournament championship with help from his influence and efforts.

During the Spartans' off-season, Miller also assisted his colleagues with player evaluation, talent recognition and recruitment of student-athletes. In-season, Miller was responsible for organizing travel arrangements for all players and staff as well as facilitating video exchange between teams.

Miller also assisted in the overall administration and day-to-day operations of MSU's summer field hockey camps; twice, he was named its assistant director.

Before arriving to Davis, Miller served as the co-coordinator for the New York State Club Field Hockey League. Consisting of 15 teams located throughout the state, Miller was the one individual responsible for creating the NYSCFHL's regular season schedule, and aiding in organizing and operating its postseason tournament.

Outside of his league obligations, Miller was a Section VI high school field hockey official and a coach for the Buffalo Hurricanes-an elite club field hockey program based in Western New York.

Born in Fontana, California, Miller, who grew up in Buffalo, New York, graduated from the University at Buffalo with an undergraduate degree in business administration before pursuing a master's in sport administration at nearby Canisius College (which he received in the spring of 2015).

As a way of balancing its rigorous academic requirements - Miller is a handful of units away from fulfilling Canisius' requirements - he competed for each school's club field hockey team.

While at the University at Buffalo, he led his team to three consecutive New York State Club Championships; in 2011, Miller was named defensive MVP when his team competed at the Collegiate Club Championship.

At Canisius, he led his school's team in scoring and assists.

Miller is the third member of his family to become involved with collegiate field hockey at the Division I level; his older sister competed for St. Francis University, his younger sister represented Michigan State before transferring to the University at Albany.
