LORETTO, Pa. - UC Davis needed just one goal to get past host Saint Francis in a 1-0 victory over the Red Flash Friday afternoon at DeGol Field in Loretto, Pa. Ellre Ancheta scored the Aggies' goal just over seven minutes into the second half as UC Davis improved to 2-0 on the year. Saint Francis fell to 0-3.

The win came four days after and three time zones away from Monday's overtime victory victory against Missouri State at Aggie Stadium. The game was also the first of six straight on the road for first-year UC Davis.

It was an afternoon marked by a strong defensive presence by the Aggies, who fought off four penalty corner attempts by the Red Flash. On the other side, UC Davis took just one corner. Lauren Sawvelle improved to 2-0 in goal after posting five saves in her first shutout of the season.

"We had a very good defensive effort. (Saint Francis) is a big-hitting team," said head coach Vianney Campos. "We found a way to get into a rhythm early and were able to consistently get the ball out."

The Aggies outshot the Red Flash 10-8 on the day with Ancheta taking five shots. Erin LemMon had two while Rachel Sabes, Ashley Haight and Marissa Hughes each finished with one shot.

UC Davis is back in action Saturday on the same field when it takes on La Salle at 12 p.m. Pacific time.
