No. 14 Stanford Defeats UC Davis, 5-1

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis fell to No. 14 Stanford, 5-1, Sunday afternoon in the NorPac Conference field hockey opener for both teams at Aggie Stadium. Rachel Mozenter scored three goals for the Cardinal while Lindsey Valadez scored her second goal of the year for UC Davis. The win keeps Stanford undefeated at 7-0 while the Aggies fell to 3-5.

The game was scoreless through the first 22 minutes before Mozenter and the Cardinal broke through with a goal with 12:28 left in the half. Katherine Donner's goal less than three minutes later gave Stanford a 2-0 lead that held up into the half.

Mozenter increased the Cardinal cushion with a pair of goals in a five-minute span midway through the second half pushing the score to 4-0.

Valadez was able to score her goal with just over 10 minutes remaining. She connected from the left side after Rachel Sabes initiated a penalty corner, and the Aggies were within 4-1. Stanford's Midori Uehara capped off the scoring with 3:49 to play.

Stanford outshot UC Davis, 26-6, and took 17 of the game's 18 penalty corners. Lauren Sawvelle finished the day with a season-high 13 saves. Her previous high was seven on Sept. 12 against New Hampshire.

UC Davis is next in action Sept. 27 when it hosts Pacific at 1 p.m.
