DAVIDSON, N.C. - UC Davis opened its three-game road trip Thursday with a 4-2 loss at Davidson in a non-conference field hockey game at Belk Turf Field. Ashley Haight and Nadia Namdari both scored their first goals of the season for UC Davis (3-7). Haight also added an assist along with Erin LemMon.
The Wildcats struck first with 13:43 remaining in the first half when Jennie Mostellar connected to make it 1-0. Just under eight minutes later, Christine Rua scored to give Davidson a 2-0 lead. The advantage would remain for the rest of the half as the Wildcats took the two-goal lead into halftime.
Davidson (3-8) increased its lead midway through the second half when it scored twice in a 90-second span. Courtney Tobe and Brit Donaldson both found the goal to give the Wildcats a 4-0 cushion with 15:52 to play.
The scoring flurry continued just over a minute later when Haight connected for her second goal of the year to draw the Aggies within 4-1. With just over 11 minutes to play, it was Namdari's turn as the Aggie freshman scored to make it 4-2.
"We certainly picked it up in the second half and came out with a lot of fire," said UC Davis head coach Vianney Campos. "Most of our opportunities came in the final part of the second half. We just need to find a way to do that for 70 minutes."
Davidson outshot UC Davis 20-11. The Wildcats took eight penalty corners compared to six for the Aggies. Lauren Sawvelle finished with eight saves in goal for UC Davis.
UC Davis remains in Davidson to face Appalachian State on Friday and Radford on Sunday.
