DAVIS, Calif.— The Aggie defense put up an impressive battle against the Ohio State offense during Sunday's contest, with UC Davis goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow posting 14 saves on the day. But a rebound shot by Ohio State in the 56th minute would be the only goal of the game, resulting in a 1-0 win for the Buckeyes over the Aggies.
Ohio State will look to take on Penn State with a 6-5 record. The Aggies will travel to face No. 21 Saint Joseph’s on Oct. 6 with a 1-9 mark.
Aggie goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow tallied yet another stellar performance in the cage during Sunday’s match. Posting 14 saves on the day, Bigelow tallied her fifth double digit game of the season. Her list of double digit efforts for 2017 now include 15 saves against Syracuse, 13 saves against William and Mary, 14 saves against Michigan, 10 saves against California, and 14 saves against Ohio State.
Bigelow remains tied for third in school history for saves in a game with Lauren Sawvelle at 15. Her 14-save effort in today’s match tied her other 14-save effort against Michigan, landing her tied for fifth in school history. Bigelow is also tied for seventh with Lauren Sawvelle and former teammate Beth Lee, at 13 saves in a game.
Bigelow’s total saves for the season now resides at 88.
The first half of Sunday’s contest saw an impressive battle on both sides, with neither squad able to get on the board before halftime.
The second half remained scoreless until the Buckeyes capitalized on a rebound opportunity to take a 1-0 lead with just under 14 minutes left to play.
Then with 1:27 remaining, UC Davis opted for a kicking back. The Aggies came close to scoring in the final seconds, but were unable to close the gap on the Buckeyes, lifting Ohio State to a 1-0 win over UC Davis.
The Aggies will hit the road to Philadelphia, Pa. for their next two games, taking on No. 21 Saint Joseph’s on Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. (PT)/ 3 p.m. (ET), and Temple on Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. (PT)/ 12 p.m. (ET).
