STANFORD, Calif. - UC Davis held No. 14 Stanford to just one goal in the second half but the Cardinal used a strong first half en route to a 5-0 NorPac Conference women's field hockey win on Friday night.
The loss snapped a season-best tying three-game winning streak for the Aggies who fell to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the NorPac. Stanford, which was led by two goals and assist from Becky Dru and two goals from Courtney Haldeman, improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Stanford outshot UC Davis 18-3 in the game, putting 11 of its shots on goal. Aggie goalkeeper Conley Craven made three of her six saves in the first eight minutes but the Cardinal finally pushed through in the 11th minute when Dru scored on a penalty corner off assists by Elise Ogle and Maddie Secco.
Shannon Herold's goal just four minutes later made it 2-0 which is where the score remained until the 29th minute when Haldeman scored her first goal on a pass along the wing from Kasey Quon. Dru's penalty corner goal in the 32nd minute gave Stanford a four-goal lead at halftime.
Haldeman's second goal, this one from the right side, was the only score of the second half.
UC Davis will return to action next Friday, traveling to Maryland to take on Towson University. The Aggies will face defending national champion Maryland a week from Sunday.
