PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Junior Nica Taglieri notched her first goal of the 2017 season during Sunday’s contest to give the Aggies a quick 1-0 lead just nine minutes after pushback. The second half would see scores from both sides including a goal by senior Kate Young that would force overtime. The Aggies threatened in the first overtime period, but a penalty stroke for the Owls in the 79th minute would lift Temple to a narrow 3-2 win over UC Davis.

The Owls will look to face Big East rival Villanova with a 4-8 record. The Aggies will return home with a 1-11 mark for the last two home games of the season, beginning with Stanford on Oct. 13.

Nica Taglieri scored her first goal of the season and second of her career during Sunday's contest. Goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow tallied six saves on the day to boost her season total to 103 saves. Briana Sooy notched her second assist of the season, Madison Cohen earned her fourth assist of the season, and Kate Young scored her seventh career goal.

The Aggies took a quick lead during Sunday’s match with Nica Taglieri putting UC Davis on the board in the first 10 minutes of play.

The UC Davis defense kept the Owls at arms length for the rest of the half, denying all scoring attempts. Goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow finished the first half with three saves under her belt.

But the Temple offense came out strong in the second half, answering with back-to-back goals in the 40th and 43rd minutes to take a 2–1 lead over the Aggies.

The Aggie offense continued to threaten, drawing four penalty corners and forcing three saves from the Temple goalkeeper.

With just under five minutes left in the game, Kate Young gave the Aggies what they were looking for on a shot that bounced past the Temple goalkeeper. Young’s goal was assisted by fellow seniors Briana Sooy and Madison Cohen who set up Young's shot on the corner.

In overtime, the Aggies continued to battle the Owls with Bigelow stringing together two outstanding saves.

But a penalty stroke drawn by Temple in the 79th minute would allow the Owls to squeak past the Aggies with a narrow 3-2 victory.

UC Davis returns to the Aggie Field Hockey Facility next weekend for the last two home games of the 2017 season, taking on Stanford on Oct. 13 and Pacific on Oct. 15. UC Davis will also be honoring three soon-to-be graduates in a Senior Day ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 15: Madison Cohen, Kate Young, and Briana Sooy.
