DAVIS, Calif.— Prior to the start of Sunday’s contest, the UC Davis field hockey program honored Madison Cohen, Briana Sooy, and Kate Young in a pre-game senior ceremony. The first half saw an impressive effort by UC Davis as they entered halftime trailing 2-1 thanks to three saves from sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow and a goal by junior Nica Taglieri. But UC Davis would not be able to overcome the rest of a five-goal deficit posted by the Tigers in the second half, resulting in a 6-1 win for Pacific over the Aggies.
The Tigers will enter their next game against No. 14 Stanford with a 6-7 record. The Aggies will look to take on California on Oct. 20 with a 1-13 mark.
Nica Taglieri notched her third career goal and second of the season off a rebound shot in the 15th minute to keep the Aggies within striking distance going into halftime. Goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow tallied six saves on the day to boost her season total to 109 saves.
The Aggie offense continued to battle the Pacific defense in the second half, threatening with two penalty corners and a shot by freshman Carli Colyer that hit off the post. But UC Davis could not close the gap on the Tigers, resulting in a 6-1 victory for Pacific over UC Davis.
The three remaining games on the Aggies’ schedule are all on the road against America East opponents. UC Davis will first face California on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m., then Pacific on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. The Aggies will then face Stanford in the last regular season contest of 2017 on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
