No. 14 Stanford Defends Early Lead In NorPac Battle

DAVIS, Calif. - Freshman attacker Lauren Becker scored a goal in each half to lead 14th-ranked Stanford to a 4-2 win over UC Davis in NorPac Conference West Division field hockey matchup at Aggie Stadium Saturday night. Freshman midfield Jamie Garcia figured on both Aggie scores, finishing with a goal and assist for the contest.

UC Davis moves to 6-10 overall and evens its conference record to 2-2. The Cardinal improves to 10-6 for the season and remains unbeaten at 5-0 in NorPac play.

Senior Nadia Namdari also scored a goal for the Aggies, redirecting Garcia's initial shot after a penalty corner in the 39th minute. Junior Megan Reardon and senior Lydia Brambila also had assists for UC Davis. Senior goalie Conley Craven tallied five saves, including four after the halftime break.

Sophomore midfielder Shannon Herold and senior defender Becky Dru each netted a goal for Stanford. Dru, Kelsey Harbin, Maddie Secco, Katie Mitchell and Elise Ogle each were credited with an assist.

Harbin assisted on the game's first goal, firing toward the cage and having her shot deflected inward by Davies just 3:07 into the contest. Secco then doubled the led to 2-0 in the final minutes before halftime, sending a pass to Herold dead center in front of the goal.

The Aggies got on the board just 3:58 into the second half on Namdari's goal, and fired three more shots midway through the period but could not equalize. Stanford padded its lead when Mitchell advanced the ball to Becker, who fired in a goal in the 55th minute. UC Davis again cut the deficit to a single goal when Brambila send a pass to Garcia up top. The Aggie freshman delivered a low blast into the cage for her team's final goal.



Dru sealed the contest for the Cardinal, converting an assist from Ogle shortly after a penalty corner in the 67th.

Saturday's contest was the first of three straight West Division contests for the Aggies before the conference tournament. UC Davis returns to action at Cal on Friday, then closes out the regular season with a home game against Pacific on October 28.
