STOCKTON, Calif. — Sunday’s America East conference match saw an action-packed first few minutes, with UC Davis senior Kate Young scoring her third goal of the season to tie the game 1-1 in just the third minute of play. Aggie goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow posted eight saves on the day, but UC Davis would not be able to close the rest of the gap on the Tigers, resulting in a 5-1 win for Pacific over the Aggies.
Pacific improves to 8-7 on the season and 4-2 in America East play. The Aggies will enter their last game of the regular season on Oct. 28 against No. 17 Stanford with a 1-15 record.
Senior Kate Young scored her eighth career goal and now holds the team high with three goals collected in 2017. Bigelow’s eight-save effort raised her season saves total to 129, just two saves shy of tying the school record for saves in a season set by Lauren Sawvelle in 2009.
Sunday’s contest held at Pacific Field Hockey Turf saw an action-packed first half. The Tigers got on the board early after converting a penalty corner opportunity within the first two minutes of the game, taking a 1-0 lead over the Aggies.
Nearly one minute later, the Aggies drew a penalty corner opportunity of their own. Following a shot by Kate Young and save by the Pacific goalkeeper, Young was able to take a second shot off the rebound, evening the score at 1-1 with 32 minutes remaining in the first half. Young’s goal marked her third this season, and eighth career goal as an Aggie.
The Pacific offense would score again in the 17th, 25th, 28th, and 31st minutes to take a 5-1 lead over UC Davis at halftime.
Aggie goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow ended the first period with six saves under her belt.
The second half would see no other scores from either squad, resulting in a 5-1 win for Pacific over UC Davis.
Bigelow would collect two more saves in the second half, totaling eight saves on the day. Bigelow’s season total now resides at 129.
UC Davis will face No. 17 Stanford on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Aggies’ last regular season contest of the 2017 season. The Aggies will then travel to Lowell, Massachusetts to compete in the 2017 America East Conference Tournament with play beginning on Nov. 2.
