STOCKTON, Calif. - Despite plenty of scoring opportunities, Pacific had to hold off UC Davis, 2-1, in a NorPac field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Brookside Field. The Tigers were credited with 24 shots compared to one for the Aggies on their way to a season sweep in the series. Nadia Namdari scored the lone Aggie goal in the second half.
The low-scoring affair was much like the first times the teams met on Sept. 27 when the Tigers held on for a 1-0 victory at Aggie Stadium. This time, the game was scoreless until the 28th minute before Katy McDonough scored the first goal to give Pacific a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would maintain that advantage for the final 7:54 of the first half.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Kiddy Leubane connected to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. It would stay that way for the next 15 minutes before the Aggies would get on the board.
With 17:36 left in the game, Namdari scored her second goal of the season when she completed a successful penalty corner. Lindsey Valadez picked up the assist on the goal, and the Aggies were within 2-1.
That would turn out to be the only shot of the day for UC Davis as Pacific outshot the Aggies, 24-1. Leubane took nine of those shots while Kim Keyawa had six.
Saturday's game was the regular season finale for both teams. UC Davis will next be in action on Thursday in the first round of the NorPac Tournament. The Aggies are scheduled to face Radford Thursday at 4 p.m. in Stanford.
