Radford Defeats UC Davis In NorPac Opener

Final Stats

STANFORD, Calif. - Radford score two goals in the second half on its way to a 2-0 victory over UC Davis in the first round of the NorPac Field Hockey Tournament Thursday afternoon in Stanford. The Highlanders scored once in the 42nd minute and again in the 52nd minute. The win advances Radford (10-9) to Friday's semifinals while UC Davis (3-14) will face either California or Davidson in a consolation game on Friday.

The game featured just a total of 20 shots with Radford holding a 12-8 edge. The Highlanders outshot the Aggies, 7-3, in the first half but neither team was able to get on the board through the first 35 minutes.

Both teams had five shots in the second half, but Radford was able to capitalize on two of those. Courtney Poole put the Highlanders on the board 6:39 into the second half with her 10th goal of the season to make it 1-0. Just over 10 minutes later, Madonna Wadolowski scored the final goal of the game giving Radford a 2-0 lead.

Nadia Namdari led UC Davis with three shots. Lindsey Valadez had two while three others had one shot apiece. Lauren Sawvelle finished with six saves in goal for the Aggies.

Radford entered the tournament as the top seed from the East Division. On Friday, UC Davis will face Davidson Friday night in a consolation game at 6:30 p.m. to close out the season.
