LOWELL, Mass. — Senior midfielder Briana Sooy, a three-time Division 1 NFHCA Academic Squad selection, was named to the 2017 America East Conference All-Academic Team during its pre-tournament banquet on Wednesday.
The communication major currently holds a 3.81 GPA.
Sooy has been a mainstay in the Aggie line-up since joining the team as a freshman back in 2014. During her first year as an Aggie, Sooy competed as both a positions player and a goalkeeper. Of the 18 games on the UC Davis schedule that season, Sooy was in the goal for 9, recording a total of 42 saves and 635 minutes in the goal cage. She collected her first career shutout against California to help the Aggies to a third-place finish at the NorPac Tournament and received NorPac Player of the Week accolades for her six-save effort against Stanford.
As a positions player, the San Jose, Calif. native has garnered career totals of 10 points on two goals and six assists. Sooy tied the program record for most assists in a single game in 2016, when she tallied two vs. LIU Brooklyn. So far in 2017, Sooy has posted two assists and one goal, which was scored on Oct. 28 against America East foe, California, to tie the game at 1-1.
UC Davis will take on No. 21 Albany tomorrow (Nov. 2) in a quarterfinal matchup beginning at 10 a.m. (PT)/ 1 p.m. (ET) on host UMass Lowell’s Wicked Blue Field. Links to live stats and live video stream can be found at the conference’s Championship Central website.
