SAN JOSE, Calif. - Senior Demi Runas played the first 36 holes of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational only three shots over par and is tied for eighth, leading the No. 13 UC Davis women's golf team on Monday at Almaden Golf and Country Club.

Runas, who was named the Big West Golfer of the Month for February last week, opened the two-day tournament with a 1-over 73 in the first round and then came back with a 74 in the afternoon. UC Davis is in 10th place at 35 over after rounds of 309 and 302.

Freshman Raegan Bremer posted a 76 in the second round and was one of three Aggies to improve their scores from the morning to the afternoon. She's tied for 40th at 10 over. Senior Amy Simanton and freshman Betty Chen had matching scores of 79 and 76 in the two rounds, respectively, and are tied for 43rd at 11 over, while junior Jessica Chulya is tied for 62nd at 17 over.

Fourteenth-ranked Stanford, one of four top-10 teams competing in the event, is 2 over and holds a nine-shot lead over No. 41 California (11 over). Ninth-ranked Washington is 14 over and in third while No. 17 North Carolina State is in fourth place, 20 shots over par.

Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford is 3 under and leads teammate Danielle Frasier by three shots.

Runas posted five birdies over her two rounds, including two in the first round when she also carded 13 pars. She didn't have any bogeys over her first 12 holes and was 1 under to that point. Runas birdied the course's 10th and 12th holes to counter a pair of early bogeys in her second round, eventually finishing with a 74.

Bremer opened her day with a 78 and then improved that by two strokes in the afternoon. She posted a 2-over 38 on the course's front nine holes, posting eight pars along the way, and was also just 2 over on the back with seven more pars.

Simanton, who had a 79 in the first round, also shot 76 in the second, playing the front nine even and highlighting her afternoon round with a birdie on the par-4 4th hole. Chen was also even on Almaden's front nine, posting three birdies including two on par-5 holes. Chulya had a birdie in each round during her day, covering the back nine just 2 over during the morning's action.

UC Davis will play Tuesday's shotgun final round with 11th-place Kansas State and 12th-place Idaho. Teams will tee off at 8:15 a.m.
