UC Davis Posts Fourth-Place At Regional Preview

LINCOLN, Calif. -- Freshman Alice Kim, playing as an individual, tied for second at the NCAA Western Regional Preview on Tuesday while freshman Chelsea Stelzimiller led the UC Davis women's golf team with a tie for eighth as the Aggies jumped three places to finish tied for seventh at the two-day event.

The tournament, played at the par-72, 6,018-yard Orchard Course at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club, gave teams an opportunity to play the host site for this year's regional championship. UC Davis was in seventh after 36 holes before shooting a 306 on Tuesday to tie UNLV for fourth at 41-over 905.

Denver, ranked 12th, led the tournament wire-to-wire, posting a 298 on Tuesday to post a 24-stroke victory at 876. Oregon, ranked 41st, was second at 900 followed by Fresno State at 904. The Aggies and No. 46 UNLV each finished a stroke in front of UC Irvine and three in front of seventh-place Washington State and Colorado.

UC Davis also finished in front of No. 50 San Francisco and was the highest-placing of four Big West Conference teams.

Amy Eneroth of Washington State, despite shooting a 77 in the final round, took medalist honors, finishing the 54-hole tournament at 216. She won by a stroke over both Cathryn Bristow of Oregon and Kim, one of five UC Davis golfers competing as individuals in addition to the Aggies' five-person team.

Kim made the most of just her third event of the season, following rounds of 71 and 72 on Monday with a 74 on Tuesday. She birdied two of her first four holes in her final round before posting the 2-over score. The tie for second was the best of her young Aggie career.

Stelzmiller, with her eighth-place showing, has posted the highest - or tied for the highest - finish among the Aggies' scoring players for the third consecutive tournament. It is also her sixth straight top-10 performance of the season.



Sydney Roughton improved her position by 16 spots to a tie for 21st thanks to her 1-over 73 over the final 18 holes. ending at 225. Lauren Dobashi had a 79 and tied for 29th at 229, Katie Sisler shot 80 and tied for 57th, and Bryana Gregory tied for 62nd after carding an 86,

UC Davis' remaining four individuals were led by Kimberly Johnson who tied for 29th at 229. Eryn Williams tied for 57th at 235, Kelsey Fischer had a 3-over 75 to tied for 72nd and Jessica Yam ended with an 82 to tie for 93rd.

Nineteen teams were entered in the tournament which was hosted by Sacramento State.

The Aggies return to action at the Peg Barnard Invitational beginning on Apr. 11.
