HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Demi Runas led No. 23 UC Davis with a 1-under 71 in the first round and is ninth overall while freshmen Beverly Vatanananugulkit and Blair Lewis had 73's in the second as the co-host Aggies grabbed eighth place after two rounds at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Half Moon Bay Golf Links.

The Aggie women's golf team, which is sharing hosting duties with No. 21 Oregon, is 15-over 591 after shooting 297 in the morning and then going just 6-over 294 in the afternoon. Runas is tied for ninth at 1-over 145, carding 74 in the second round.

Vatananugulkit opened with a 74 before her 73 left her 3 over and tied for 16th in the 75-player field. Sophomore Jessica Chulya had rounds of 75 and 74 and is tied for 29th at 5-over, Lewis combined her 73 with a 77 earlier and is tied for 39th at 6-over 150, and junior Amy Simanton is 9 over after a 78 and 75.

The highly competitive tournament, which features two top-10 teams and nine in the top 50, is being led by No. 1 UCLA which is 13-under 563 and has a 14-shot lead over No. 3 USC (577). Unranked San Jose State (584) is third while No. 40 Stanford and No. 29 Washington are tied for fourth at 9-over 585.

The Aggies are just two shots back of seventh-place Arizona (589) and lead Oregon (592) by one.

Runas started her first round well, playing her first 13 holes a shot under par before mixing two birdies, two bogeys and a par the rest of the way to come in with a 71. She had three birdies in the afternoon.

Vatananugulki had two birdies over her first 18 holes and two more in the second round while adding 13 pars. Chulya was 3 over after the morning round and then started her second round with a birdie and was steady the rest of the day, carding her 74.

Lewis had three birdies in her first-round 77 and then had two early bogeys in the second round before an impressive 14 pars and a birdie helped her shoot 73. Simanton had a birdie in each round while adding 13 pars in the second.

Erynne Lee of UCLA had back-to-back rounds of 68, moving to 8 under after the first day and opening a five-shot lead over teammate Tiffany Lua and USC's Lisa McCloskey.

Teams will finish the 54-hole tournament at The Ocean Course on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
