Sept. 17, 2010

TANAGURA, Japan - Sophomore Amy Simanton shot a 1-over 73 during last Saturday's final round as the UC Davis women's golf team shot a 6-over 294 to complete play at the international Topy Cup at Tanagura Country Club.

The Aggies, who finished at 18-over 882 for the 54-hole event, finished behing Arizona which posted a 6-over 870. They were the only two U.S. collegiate teams competing in the tournament which also featured Japanese collegiate squads and individuals.

Simanton finished in fifth among U.S. players at 2-over 218. Sophomore Demi Runas tied for second at par, Chelsea Stelzmiller tied for sixth at 9-over, Alice Kim was ninth at 14-over and Belen Hernandez was a shot back of her in 10th.

The tournament provided a unique opportunity for the Aggies to open the 2010-11 season. It marked the first time that the program has played in an international tournament. The trip also afforded the team cultural experiences and sight-seeing before returning to the United States to continue the remainder of their fall season.

The Aggies are scheduled to compete in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico on Friday and Saturday.
