Wong, Lee Pace Fifth-Place Aggies in Final Round

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Andrea Wong birdied her final two holes on Saturday to finish with a par-73 while freshman Paige Lee had a 74, as the UC Davis women's golf team finished fifth at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico.

Sophomore Betty Chen fired a 75 in the final round and tied for seventh at 1-under 219. Lee, a freshman from Folsom, playing in her second collegiate tournament, tied for 18th at 4 over. The Aggies carded a collective 8-over 300 on Saturday, finishing 12 over for the tournament.

Pepperdine (865) posted a 12-shot win over second-place Oregon (877), finishing 11 under. Iowa State )(878), Northwestern (884) and UC Davis (888) finished in the next three spots in the 16-team tournament.

Starting on the third hole of UNM's Championship Course, Wong had an early birdie on her second hole to quickly move under par. She was 2 over after 15 holes before a birdie on the par-5 first hole and another on the par-4 second evened her round. Wong tied for 27th at 6 over.

Chen had a spectacular 4-under 69 in Friday's second round to move into the top five. She had five birdies on Saturday on her way to 75, eventually finishing in the top 10. Three of the birdies came on the front nine which she played 1 under. Lee had four birdies Saturday, including on a pair of par-5 holes, covering the back side even.

Vatananugulkit tied with Wong for 27th after shooting 79 on Saturday. She was 4 over on the front nine and had eight pars on the back. Senior Jessica Chulya, who finished with a 78 and tied for 42nd at 12 over, highlighted her round by playing UNM's back nine even. She had a birdie on the par-3 16th.



Oregon's Cassy Isagawa fired a 69 in the final round to finish 12 shots under par and beat Marissa Chow of Pepperdine for medalist honors by six shots.

The Aggies will stay on the road for the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo., which begins on Monday.
